Title: WMA and M4A tags
Post by: dedos on October 21, 2009, 02:21:45 PM
Something odd happening with WMA, M4A files and ET.

When I was listing the tracks of some WMA and M4A CDs I have in ET, they were mislabeled.  When I checked the artist name, it said NO TAG.

Tag And Rename shows them with the correct tag.

I was going to convert them all to .mp3 but my utility doesn't retain the tags so I would have to re-tag them but it's not a big deal using T&R.  Should I proceed with the convert?

Below is the image of the e-touch config showing the tags on my test XP laptop

WMA & M4A tags do not read correctly, this is a known error and I am looking at using a different tag reading system for those formats. Converting them to MP3 will fix the issue but you will loose some quality, how much depends on the bit rates of the source and bitrate you are re-encoding to in mp3. There is a DLL i could use to read the tags correctly but there is a cost involved in that and i have not really had chance to evaluate it to see how good it deals with WMA and M4A.
