I had an empty baby pac man arcade cab that i had no plans to restore and my friend really wanted a jukebox..so i gave him the cab no charge and he took out a personal loan. weve already started ordering the parts. but this cabinet, i feel, is going to be better than mine. and i'll be able to not make the same mistakes i did with my first one....
-the image shows the rough layout, but i'll be incorporating fiberglass inserts for both monitors and fiberglass pods to extend the top speakers out. hidden but accesible keyboard/mouse on front panel, subwoofer encloser(1 12"woofer). and so far the color theme chosen is going to be orange and yellow.(already bought the paint)
-were going to try and finish this in the next 3 to 4 weeks, before he leaves for SD, cali.(http://a929.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/9/m_cee6f52d3c09016ba370a0a96ef26268.jpg)in fact, as im typing this, he's sanding it down right now, haha.(http://a314.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/63/m_d83b8edc2549516ae6374e576acce1d1.jpg)
Im going to make him join the forum and donate generously! ;D
just finished all the body work, made the first shelf and cutout for the reciever,(not sure what we want to do with the old coin door hole),. cutoff the excess wood where the old flipper buttons were, and layed up the first coat of primer...(http://a806.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/8/m_a1a71e4457fea9ec02aaf3e97b2ce5dd.jpg)
-im keeping step by step progress pics in an album on myspace if anyones interested to see http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=200564474&albumId=567123 (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=200564474&albumId=567123)
-unfortunatly to see them you got to be a member but its easy, you dont even need to make a profile...FYI
-when ordering parts, we found a 20" flat screen for half the price of a 19" with the same features needed,.. its going to be an extremely tight fit, but im going to make it work..!! hopefully we'll paint it up in the next couple of days and parts start arriving soon.
Should i be upset you used a baby pac man machine?
haha, nah..im sure there might be a few people out there who might be, and believe me im one not to be quick to destroy original cabs, but i saw no reason not to use it,..it had absolutly nothing, no playfield, monitor, any circuit baords....completly empty,..and even tho it looks clean in the photo, this cab was really in bad shape...to restore would cost more than its worth,..so rather than have it sit in my backyard serving no purpose, i found its new purpose! ;D
just thought id post an update...just finished all the woodwork and will be disassembling it to prep it for paint. we decided against any fiberglass mods to it due to tight fits on everything and it still came out with a clean look..i actually like the flat panel for the touch screen vs what i had in mind earlier. i have plexi cut to protect the tv screen and give it that finished look..i guess it dosnt look like much here but the the photos tell the whole story..progress photos are here: www.myspace.com/twelveninedy (http://www.myspace.com/twelveninedy) i'll post another photo in a few days after im finished painting it. (http://a814.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/112/l_f05ee1a1dfc9a07effdf06148fa02a3d.jpg)
(http://a791.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/127/l_1f3b831657b99cfd7343f79d40b43bce.jpg)the speaker box was a snug fit and we ported it since its only going to be 1x12" woofer..
(http://a138.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/75/l_270fb19874ad2ecbfad4fb29b1d8ac71.jpg)i routered the inside edge to give a natural recessed look on the 20" flat screen. i had about a 1/2 inch on each side to spare for it to fit..
:)
Nice Jukebox, I like it. How long are you work on the box?
Regards
Karli
DAY 17,...and some minor setbacks..the reciever was shipped damaged and the paint took 2 full days to completly dry. still gotta tape up the graphics, which i'll do while waiting for the new reciever and finish hooking up the rest of the components.
(http://a774.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/107/l_7f77d637fd399d0e9baf2e9d5949413d.jpg) its gonna get some simple yellow swirls. nothing fancy
(http://a723.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/90/l_ea778ba993a02e374d51800d08a6ea72.jpg) just started installing, trying to keep everything as clean and secure as possible.
Too late now but i'm thinking you should have brought this..

Some guy on BYOAC paid $700 for his baby pac man and by all accounts it was a bargain at that price. ;)
that playfield would be one hell of a project!! and i would still need the vidiot board and otherre boards,, etc.. all in all it would easily go over 700$ and many hours,..which btw i was half tempted to bid on the complete one but shipping costs would ruin the deal.
-i have no regrets, but this last weekend wore me out!! i havent had a chance to continue on this project,. hopefully i can put some time in it this week.
-i read the posts in byoac, haha sounds like you and chadtower have a bit an opinion difference..
-i saw you mentioned this project, so do i dare show'em what im doing to my cab!! ;D hahaha
Chad is a right tard he anoys me...
haha, chad does have a lot to say,..20000+ posts..dang.....anyways heres some updated photos of the project..im actually gonna put some time on it today and try to wrap things up. i just got to get my friend to buy the t-molding now..

Damn dude, that has turned out pretty smart man. I like it :D
Wasn't Baby PacMan a pinbal/arcade combo?
Either way that turned out pretty slick looking.

;D
And that juke looks cool.
=J
well had to redesign the speaker setup due to unbalanced sound. splitting just one channel and having full range out of the other channel was too off balance...so now im waiting for the other speaker and crossover in the mail. but heres a pic... two 12" woofers might be a bit much, but its gonna hit insane!
Calling out "crazyorange"!! hurry up and pay the man would ya! >:( so i will then finish your juke. i got only to install the program...waitin on you bro.. when you gonna come pick it up anyways. oh, and buy the t-molding already!
I am completely lost here ???
crazyorange is the handle my friend chose who i built this for. i told him i wanted him to donate to your program(before v3 was out even) if we were going to build this. he went to san diego before we could finish and i know he hasnt donated yet. so he has to finish his end of the deal before i will give it to him. just lookin out for you, i built this one for fun. and i was just calling him out publicly to kinda give him a push ;D
Now it makes sense, sweet dude.
Yes Yes!! I am on my way to donating, just needed a lil time and the right info..ill get it out by the end of the week.
alright, so now i can continue.. what noone has seen yet is after learning a LOT more about home stereo i redesigned the speaker box for the 3rd and FINAL time. this one is much better sounding. i didnt bother to paint this one cuz nobody has any business being back there anyways but i cleaned up the wiring n stuff.

well, crazyorange just called me and said he ordered the t-molding. so thats it then, this thing is done and badass.
You need an LED sign where the marquee used to be to really finish it off ;D
HA! funny you should mention that. i was thinking the same thing as it would seem so fitting there. i just measured it out and there is pleeennty of room. i think we started this just before the signs were available so we didnt think of it but now.......
i was actually gonna ask orange if he'll do it(cuz its his money), so crazyorange, what do yo think?
----just did a quick photoshop----
you better save up dude, you need this now!

That looks really nice. What kind of paint did you use? I am probably going to laminate mine but I'm not sure yet.
believe it or not, we chose to roll on latex paint. i wont make that mistake again. it never really seemed to dry as it always has a moist feel to the touch. almost like its sweating.... most my other projects i get poly paint from work and its like having a plastic coating on the outside. i could hit my green juke with a bat and it probably wouldnt even crack or show ;D
Yes the LED is deffinatly in..and what will happen with the speakers that are there is a possible pod action extending from the sides...i have talked to draginit and the finances are situated...i should be making it back to its location for a real look at the end of november, but its not for sure but is yup..
Also.. yes the paint was a lil stubborn it was behr brand...
That is one sweet ass jukebox man.... I do like it. I'm still running off a tablet PC LOL
crazyorange has been wanting me to post pics of the finished product with the t-molding and ive been lagging. :chad Damn package came the day after he left for a weekend bash so you just missed it so here it is dude. minus the led sign of course. hopefully you can pick this thing up soon, otherwise if it times out right i might have to drop it off during my move ;D.
-keep saving for the sign, its totally worth it, but you know that when you saw it in action on mine a few weekends back, yes? .....wait i only had the demos on it to light up then huh.. well you saw the potential.
