Title: Touch Screen
Post by: just_buck on September 19, 2007, 06:25:51 PM

Hope I'm posting this in the right area......

These are 19" LCDs and CHEAP!  Esp for a 19!

I bought one off of EBay and it arrived yesterday.....

My initial tests have been great.  Screen looks great!

So i thought I would pass the word!

(may still find them on EBay slightly cheaper....  but I'm not sure...)

Nice, if i had the money i would so get one of those. 19" is a step up from the little 14" i have right now.

Well I have it.....  I've had it hooked up to my test computer and display is GREAT!

I'm coming off a 15" ELO that in the very middle running left to right about 1" in width was a dead line.

So I always had to reconfigure the skins to avoid the dead line.  Talk about a pain....
And since I'm not well versed in skinning, every time there was an update and the skins changed, i would have to redo everything....   Yes, I'm sure there is an easier way to retain some settings, but it doesn't take that long anymore....  But I'll be SO GLAD not to have to make so many changes to avoid that line anymore.....

Again, the screen to me is great!  Touch functions were seemless....

I'm going to continue testing/playing...  Then off to rebuild a new jukebox!

I hope that your screen turns out just as great Woody!

I bought mine from a used place.
http://www.pcrecycle.net/

It is a used place, but they had 3 15-inch ELO's still in the boxes in the back unopened. Mine was decased so it was an easy bolt in. Cost was 150bucks

well actually the one I am building I am not going to use now.  I decided to make another one a little different.  The one that I was making is for a 17" kiosk similar to this 19" one.  If you have any wood cutting experience you could make a smaller monitor fit.

If not I might try to sell this one.

To be honest i think you need to put the monitor and computer in the wall hanging unit in one go. Did you see the robinsons jukebox? I was looking for something like that.. I think i could sell those but not at the prices he wanted for the cabs.

I did not see that jukebox, any pics or links??  The reason I am only building a monitor frame is so I can hook it up to my stereo, eventually it will be through out the house

Woddy, I'm glad to hear that "the bitch is rockin!"

Funny, because my monitor went a little screwy by slowly getting a bright spot on the upper right of the screen....  But they exchanged it, and the replacement is working great!

But again, glad you like!

yea that, and did you see they jacked up the price another 150$!! or so even if you wanted it one.

-i tell you tho, that price might still be worth it as this thing rocks! i havnt got to try the t/s portion of it yet tho. i guess im gonna just download all the drivers until it works.

The 15" ones on ebay for $125 are still there though. I think they are a better buy personally, maybe it's because i am always broke LOL.

Wow, all gone from Pacificgeek?  I just searched for EFL-1902X on the bay and made sure to search descriptions and found a guy who had 2.  He now only has 1.   :)

Thanks guys.  Cant wait to get it and start building my cabinet.  I was at menards this weekend and spotted one of their kiosks.  They actually have them placed all over the store for various projects.  I like it and think I will model one after it.

Later...

Heh.  Just noticed, the ebay guy is using the same pictures from PacificGeek's item page.  Bet he ordered a stack of them when they were still cheap and is just flipping them now.  I wonder if he's even got the things yet.

..no, looking at his feedback, he's been selling them at that price for a few months now.

I took the plunge and ordered one, looks like I'm committed to building a juke for sure now.  ;D

WOOT!

Touchscreen arrived via US Postal Service Tuesday the 13th- exactly 7 days from date of order.  Not bad, considering I ordered in the late evening, and there was a weekend and a US Postal holiday in there as well- That only left three working days for it to get here.

I finally got play with the thing last night, and it's fricking nice.  Came with cables for VGA, Power, and a serial cable for the touchscreen "mouse" function.  The screen is very sturdy- not soft like the cheap LCD monitors I'm used to.  Feels like glass on the front.  No dead pixels, no light/dark spots, no geometry trouble- just a nice clean pic from edge to edge.  The touchscreen portion is working great with the XP drivers that were linked up on the PacificGeek page.

I fired up Freebox for a test and of course, it works great.  The wife has had zero interest in the juke project up until now, but when I called her in and she got to actually see it and poke some buttons, she finally "got it".  Now she just wants me to hurry up and put it in the living room.  And put something besides AD/DC in it.  ;D

Well, to be fair, I did have 25 albums of AC/DC. And 7 albums of "other".(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a252/kremmit/guitarplay2.gif)(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a252/kremmit/drumsplay8.gif)(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a252/kremmit/guitarplay1.gif)

I received my touch screen a few weeks ago, but I was still organizing my music collection, so I hadn't hooked it up yet.  Decided to hook it up tonight and I was having a little trouble figuring out what driver to use at the 3M site http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MTouchSystems/TS/TechnicalInformation/TouchDrivers/ (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MTouchSystems/TS/TechnicalInformation/TouchDrivers/) So if anyone else is wondering, it is the TouchWare 5.64 SR6 driver that works with these touchscreens (EFL-1902X).

Things all come together when you get the touchscreen going.  Wow, thats cool.  The display looks great and works perfectly.

Yup, those are the drivers I used with XP.

BTW, if your touchscreen calibration is off (mine was), the 3-point calibration might not fix it (didn't for me).  If you dig through the menus there was an "Advanced" menu somewhere with all kinds of warnings not to mess with it.  But the "Linearization" option turns out to be a much better calibration routine- like 20 points or something.  Got my screen working just exactly where I poke it, every time.

This likely applies to other 3M touchscreen controllers, as well.
