I clicked album first, searched 1984, worked.
i then clicked artist, searched van , worked.
THEN, click title, typed in TRA, had to click GO SEARCH this time, worked
Did new Search, typed GET, error.
Something wrong with the GET titles? I can do other TITLE searches.

What are your album covers set to in the options? Sounds like the problem is to do with one of the albums returned in the search to be honest but if you tell me your cover settings i can try and recreate the error...
I have use first found checked.
I searched by album title, hoping to get the song that I was trying to find, and it gave the same error.
Then I deleted that album cover, redownloaded from Amazon, same thing.
I'll attach it. Not really sure that this is the problem though.

Ok i need to make a debug version for you... What is happening is one of the albums returned in that search is throwing up an error. I assume it's one of the first ones found and that is the issue.
Try this exe....
When you search each result will pop up in a message box you will have to ok through. It should you find the problem album...

The Debug showed up right before the error. So what do you think it is? That file has an embedded cover art or something?
I use tag & rename and it's no help.

What poppeed up in the message box? What did it say?
It gave me an mp3 file name. One that I have in "1 hit wonders"
I moved that file out, recreated the library, but now I'm getting that runtime error 76, invalid path when starting freebox....?

Delete your queue.dat file and see if it then works.
I have tried to recreate your bug but i just can't seem to do it. I am assuming you have a bad path somewhere, have you tried to recreate your database?
I suggest you do a clean install of the last non alpha private release and then build a new library and see if it then works, if it doesn't post back here the exact steps to create the error and i will try again.

so the queue.dat fixed it or the fresh install? Sounds like it was a corrupt library. Were you using an old library from an older version? The public one perhaps? They are nto compatible. Anyway, glad you are up and running now.
no, reinstall fixed it. ;D I had regenerated the library as well before the queue.dat and it didn't resolve the problem.

I got this error while playing around with another skin. I was just clicking around, clicked on an album, and bomb. Is there anyway I can figure out what's wrong with my images or whatever?

well if all your covers are called folder.jpg i would use that in the freebox options rather than 1st cover found. Also the size of that jpg looks a little large. It won't cause the crash but will slow things down 320x320 is ideal. Also are you sure the image is a jpg. Some images have a jpg extension but are not jpg's the only way to be sure is back up the offending image then open it in something like M$ pain and saving it as a JPG.
Off the top of my head that is all i can think of right now.
I found a program that claims to test invalid jpeg's, it didn't report an error.
I deleted the png and am creating the library again.

That is because freebox expects more than one album....

I found in tag and rename to remove the picture from the mp3.
Did that and now get this:

Dude, that is because you probably had a corrupt database from your first attempt. Delete and .REC and .CVR files and try again. Also you cannot build the library with only one album chuck a couple mopre in there. It is my problem because it isn't working and you are a user. I wan't you to be happy with the product and will try my best to get you up and running dude.

I removed all of the embedded cover art, recreated the database. I'm getting the invalid picture more and more. So far I've been able to fix one by one by redownloading the cover art using Tag and Rename. That's going to be a huge task for me.
Is there no way to trap errors like this? Just show no cover available?
The jpegs are OK in all other software. I can't get anything to tell me that they are bad.
I can't really use the software until I find all the "Bad" covers. When it crashes, no one will want to play, and it also doesn't return the task bar, so I can't even shut the PC down from the touchscreen.
With all of your options and the rapid development you are doing, I need to be using freebox. I just wish I could figure out what's wrong with my images.

The problem is the other apps are opening them regardless of the file extension. What it sounds like to me is that you have downloaded sovers and renamed them as jpg but they are infact PNG something simular. There is no way of telling from with in the software easilly without manually reading the file header. Can you not just do a batch conversion on all the covers using something IRFANVIEW to make sure they are valid JPG's.
Yeah, not to add grief to your problem jacktucky, but every one of my images are labled as cover.jpg and I do not have any mp3's with embeded album covers.
Everything works perfectly for me.
Personally I would make sure all images are stripped out of the mp3's and replace a cover or two at a time and make sure they work just incase what you have is well incorrect or currupt.

I dunno. I converted one of the problem jpg's using irfanview. I opened it up, clicked save as, chose JPG, said yes to overwrite. Same error in freebox. :-\

If I use the search function to navigate to the album with the error, no problem.
If I use the slider to get to various artists and double click the album, error.

Ah... I might know what it is. Are you using the folder.jpg from media player? If so that file is hidden and freebox doesn't like it. Even if you are not using that folder.jpg can you check the file isn't hidden.
I never use media player, and I checked it's not hidden..... :-\

Here you go. Its not the offical installer, but I took my files and used winzip and then created a self unzip version if you do not have winzip installed.
I personally do not write covers to my mp3 files and I use cover.jpg as my file name. Im hoping it saves because I sent you exactly my settings that do work well and what I use. Feel free to use Anti-Virus on the file, but I know its safe.

What OS are you using? I'll try that download on a work machine, but so far I've not had any issues at all with it.
Xp MCE. I just double click it and that's it. I tried to run it from a "dos box", said it couldn't run there.

Don't understand why jack is the only one having issues. It has to be that your jpg's are not really jpg's. I don't know the easiest way of converting them with some osrt of bulk processing if you say IRFANVIEW will not work. Sned me your drive and i will sort out your collection for you ;)

How many covers are you looking at in total then? I would have thought doing a search on you music directory for *.jpg then opening each one and resaving it as a jpg would fix the issue. Have you tried that?

I've done that for the ones that I find that are broken and it doesn't fix it. Only downloading using tag and rename (from amazon.com) fixes it. It's effing weird.

Remember in the settings where it talks about Targets. Disable everything except Generic and change the album/artist box to cover.jpg.
Personally I would do a test and take a few albums and make sure you have no images in their folders or tags and give that app a try. Ive done over 800 albums and with the exception of a few its found nearly all of them. Of course I have the search in Wal-mart, amazon, Yahoo and Buy.com turned on.
If you click on the folder and nothing seems to copy over into the search box, double click on the album and just click on a track then back up to the folder. For some reason it doesn't always work the first time. Go figure. As well on the two ways to view your albums I normally pick the one on the left.
I would highly advise not picking your entire directory for albums because it could take forever to load them all up and then you have wait each time you start the program up. I personally created folders a-z and all my bands that are well a go in a and so forth. Makes it a bit easier to maintane.

Make sure you upload it as a binary, not ASCII. I use leech ftp it takes care of such things.
Well I use FlashFXP which is great for all that stuff and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on. Looks like after a uninstall and re-install its fixed.
So if anybody needs the file its up a few posts. ;)

Looks like many of my images were messed up. I used album art downloader which I hear had a problem. Also, I think you were right, many of my images were PNG but saved as JPG. None of the conversion programs I could find would fix those. Acdsee too.
I deleted every image on my drive. I used album art aggregator to redownload. I got many images automatically. The ones that didn't come automatically, I either fixed the names and redownloaded, or downloaded them manually. it sucked, but I'm done.

After download 1,000's of cover art pics to my new library, I'm getting this error :(
Is my only solution to delete all art and start again?
You probably got some fake jpg files (such as a xml in .jpg extention) in you folders.
what I did is fire up FreeBox, then forward page by page and try to remember the last album name when freebox get that error; then go to check those forlders (up to 12 folders) right after that remembered album by using a picture prewiew app, delete the bade ones; do that until you can run through all the albums.
Fixed. I split my collection up into smaller and small sections until I narrowed it down to a few albums and found two corrupt jpg files.

There are over 100 refernces to loading jpg files. It would be a huge job to sort that out.. Would be easier to code an app that checks your cover art.
Couldn't you just use Album Art and have it open the folder with all your Mp3's in it and look for images that are missing. Assume they are either bad or missing?
As well I always tell freebox to look for cover.jpg and nothing else.
