Title: tagging music videos
Post by: mfacer on June 11, 2008, 10:54:52 AM
I've just got a few hundred music videos (MPG) and tried to get them to generate a library using config5. It didnt work, then i searched here and found i need to use the beta tag program. The trouble is, that doesnt seem to work either. I popped three music videos in a folder - didnt work - so I tried giving them their own folders ARTIST - SONG format, that didnt work. I get the following error from the betatag tool.

(popup box title: Non-MP3 Tagger)
(message: Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument)

Any ideas??

Does the non beta tagger load?
Title: Re: tagging music videos
Post by: mfacer on June 11, 2008, 12:36:54 PM
I only seem to have betatag - there doesnt seem to be another program I can use in the folder? (from the most recent files)...

It could be a problem with permissions? The files were on a shared network drive - when I pulled them on to my local PC it seemed to tag them OK. When I select the local folder in config though and press generate library, it says 0 files added with no problems...

For music videos you need them to be in virtual albums....

EG

Music Videos\Artists\Queen\Queen - Kind Of Magic.mpg
Music Videos\Artists\ZZ Top\ZZ Top - Legs.mpg

Then build the library from the music videos folder, it should pick them all up then.

I have put the videos and their .tag file in folders and it's worked!

Any tips on getting images for them??

Also - I assumed as it was a video file, when I added it to the queue, it would play full screen straight away? I guess not! I'm now thinking I need to enable the second monitor for this....?

all part of the learning curve!!
Title: Re: tagging music videos
Post by: Barcrest on June 11, 2008, 05:21:16 PM
Yes a second screen is the best way. Although i am adding an option to make video and karaoke automatically play full screen on a single screen set up.

Another thing, make sure all the files in a folder have the same album tag. The put a cover.jpg in there, i use a greatest hits cover and group them by artist.

yeah good idea. I've actually tried putting the videos in with MP3 music folders. Seems to work OK although the album was labelled "Various Artists". Might just stick with separate video / music folders.

has anyone else tried mixing them??
Title: Re: tagging music videos
Post by: Barcrest on June 11, 2008, 11:32:50 PM
You can mix them just ensure the artist names and album names match. I just prefer putting them in the videos lib so i know i am playing a video there is no way to tell if you put them in the same folder.
Title: Re: tagging music videos

yeah I'm inclined to agree now! It's looking a little messy with videos mixed in. I'll keep them separate I think!!
Title: Re: tagging music videos

I read this thread.  I just started playing with videos.  I found a converter tool and converted a couple FLV files to MP4s.  Based on what I learned from this thread I created folders:

videos\artists\meatloaf\meatloaf-bat out of hell.mpg4
videos\artists\Katy Perry\Katy Perry-I kissed a Girl.mpg4

I also copied a cover image from my music library for Meatloaf into the meatloaf vidio folder.   cover.jpeg

Then I ran the Config, selected Video, and pointed at the Video directory.

When I hit generate Library, Finished Searching 0 files found.
No Media Files Found.

Am I missing a step with some type of Tagger or something??

Also, once we get this to be seen by config, Will it go into Full screen on the Juke or do I need to have a separate monitor to see the video??

Thanks,

Randy

You need to use the non mp3 tagger to tag the videos, it will create a .tag file for each video. The config will then pick these up. If you are using a single screen you can make the video full screen on the now playing screen by clicking on the small video playing in the top right. It is best if you have a second screen though as it will be playing while people are still using the jukebox to queue up other songs and videos.

Where is the non MP3 tagger?  Is this in the product or is this a 3rd party thing I need to download?

Thanks.

It's included with freebox. It's caled betatagger in V4 and i think the updated version was released as the V4 update pack.

I keep the videos in a separate folder than the CDs on the same drive.

I used the tagger and it created a file like :

f:\videos\artist\meatloaf\meatloaf - Bat out of Hell.mp4.tag

I did this for a couple video files.  Then I went into the config and
changed Selected Library to Video.

Clicked below on folder for Videos\artists\meatloaf

Then I clicked   Generate Library.

Again I got no files found and No Media files.

I hit update library. Then Started Freebox.

Pressed the Video button and nothing happend.

I don't see the video to select or anything, just the CD album jackets.

Where am I going wrong??

Pinball,

What does the .tag say? Open up the .tag file with notepad and see if the <artist>,<title> part of the tag is filled out. If not, you can edit the .tag file with notepad and then save it.

Re-run the config program and see if the .tag file you just edited shows up. I had to play around with it a few times also to get it to work correctly.

Also, when using the non-MP3 tagger, see pic below:

Then re-run the config, then update the library.

The video will play in the Now-Playing screen. You have to make sure the 'Hide Vis on Now Playing Screen' in the 'Appearance' part of the General Settings is NOT checked! if it is checked then all you will get with 1 monitor is the audio part of the video. If you have 2 monitors, then the video will play on one and the jukebox interface will be on the other!

I hope this helps!  :beer

Is it possible to get the tagger tool to automatically scan subfolders and generate the tags? I have 1000 folders and tagging each one manually is horribly painful.

Cheers,

Fordman:

I am back at this after a lay-off.  I used the tagger to tag the video files. When I run config, I change the Selected Library from Audio to Video.

I pointed at the Video folder and Hit Generate Library.  It said No records Found.

I did it a couple more times , still pointing at the Video folder and somehow it listed all the music titles from the different music folder.

When I started freebox, whether I pushed the Music or Video Button, I saw all my music CDs.

I can't get a video to show or play.   Any Ideas?  I'm frustrated... ???

If you care to e mail me, I can e mail you back any screenshots you may need to look at.

By chance are your videos in a folder of their own;
c:\Videos\ACDC
c:\Videos\ACDC\Who Made Who.mp4
with
c:\Videos\ACDC\Who Made Who.tag
c:\Videos\ACDC\Hells Bells.mp4
with
c:\Videos\ACDC\Hells Bells.tag
also c:\Videos\ACDC\cover.jpg & coversmall.jpg
or
c:\Videos\Boston
c:\Videos\Boston\It's Been Such A Long Time.mp4
with
c:\Videos\Boston\It's Been Such A Long Time.tag
c:\Videos\Boston\Amanda.mp4
with
c:\Videos\Boston\Amanda.tag
also c:\Videos\Boston\cover.jpg & coversmall.jpg

Thats how mine are structured and it works great!

F:\Videos\Artists\Katy Perry\Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl
F:\Videos\Artists\Katy Perry\Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl.MP4.tag

F:\Videos\Artists\Meat Loaf\Meat Loaf- Two Out of Three
F:\Videos\Artists\Meat Loaf\Meat Loaf- Two Out of Three.MP4.tag

What I just noticed is that when I look at my computer (View Details), and look at the folder for the above videos, the .MP4 does not show after the video name like on your example.

If I double click the file it will play in media player, and if I hold the mouse pointer over it , it shows as a MPEG 4 Movie in the description.

The videos are in a folder of there own .

When I start the tagger and select an artist and double click,

The list that shows below contains the video_name.MP4
Title: Re: tagging music videos

To view the file type, you need to open a window, at the top, goto Tools>Folder Options>View

You will see the file extention such as MP4.

Open up the NonMP3 tagger. Goto where your videos are stored. Select the Artist you want to make a tag for. If you have more than 1 MP4 (or whatever type of video file you have) file then they all will show.
Click the POPULATE ALL FROM FILE NAME button and the tags will be made.

On the line where you have the %1 - %2 and the likes, this is where you need to decide what is where.

Look at the pic below.

I have mine set up like this: Artist = %1 Song = %2  So in the filename, such as in the picture, Black Label Society - Stillborn.mp4 = Black Label Society = %1 and Stillborn = %2. make sure in the line you have it %1 - %2 (%1<space>dash<space>%2). Thats all I use for Video. Now if my file name was Black Label Society - 01 - Stillborn then the line would read %1 - %5 - %2

But, you can type in the other item such as genre, cd name, song number. The hit the 'COPY TO ALL' button next to the category and the tag will be re-written with the additional info. Make sure the Auto Save on Change file box is ticked also!

Try that and check in with a full report!

You will have to upgrade to E-Touch V5.

But the old version should work just the same.

I followed your steps. I turned on Show File extention in Folder Options.

The videos show as examp: Meatloaf - You took the Words.MP4

When I hold the mouse pointer over the file name, Windows says :

TYPE: MPEG-4 MOVIE

When in My Computer, in the Video folder ,if I double click it, the Video will start the Media Player and play the video.

I installed V5.0.17 today..

I am now using the E-touch Barcrest Configurator and the new E-Touch non MP3 Tagger that came w/  V 5.0.17

I also followed the procedures for Tagging each video, now all 5 videos show up succesfully. There is One Katy Perry vid and 4 Meatloaf vids.

(Although I am not exactly sure what the functions I was selecting is actually supposed to be doing).

Ex: Copy to ALL

Populate from Filename vs. Populate ALL from File Name . What's the difference?

I don't know what the TEST button is for...

NOW, for the problem....

I am in E_Touch.  I select the Video button and the 2 Artist pictures show up, Katy Perry and MeatLoaf.

When I select MeatLoaf, the screen opens and I see the four Meatloaf videos listed.

I select MeatLoaf - You took the Words..

And Push PLAY NOW.

A WARNING TRIANGLE message appears that says,
" The File you are attempting to play has an extention that does not match the file format.

Playing the File may resuly in unexpected Behavior. Do you want to Play?

If I hit yes, It does not play.  If I then go back out to E-Touch main screen, and Push the Music Button , E-touch shows the song that is to be playing in the upper right corner. But the progress bar is stuck at 0.
Nothing is playing. If IO hit the Right arrow to go to the next song, nothing happens. So I shut down E-Touch and restart. OK Then.

Are MPEG-4 MOVIE files (as mine show under the pointer) , the same a MP4 files.  If so, why do you think my files are viewed as a missmatch between type and extention?

Thanks,

Randy

You need to have the K-Lite codec packs installed.

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm (http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm)

download and then view this thread http://www.freeboxjukebox.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1493.0 (http://www.freeboxjukebox.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1493.0)

Then try to play your MP4's.

Is your juke conneced to the internet? If so, the reason it always plays in WMP is because it always downloads the codec prior to playing. the K-Lite codecs will take care of this.

Try this and report back!

Installed the Codec,  Now when I switch to VIDEOS, I can Play the Vids,
With no errors or warning messages.

But there is just the audio, NO Vidio image is showing anywhere on either the Music or Video screens.

I only have  my one PC monitor, and I wonder if I need to change a setting in the options to see the videos..

enable transparancy?, Hide Vis? or anything with the monitor #s

I feel like we are getting close to making this work...

Title: Re: tagging music videos

NOTE: For this quick tutorial, I used pics from 2 different tutorials, there is no error with E-Touch!

When the video is playing, goto the 'Now Playing' Screen.

Upper Right corner. Touch the album cover and then the Now Playing Screen will appear.

Also in the upper right corner, you'll see the Visualization box, but instead of the visualization, you then see the video. Tap the video for fullscreen!

There are some of us lobbying on this board to have the video go into full screen automatically when a video is played. I believe Barry is working on it, but we're all being patient!

Fordman,

That works!!!!!!!

I am very happy!

Now I need to start converting a bunch of FLV files I pulled off of UTUBE to MP4's.

I need to send you a case of beer!   :beer  :beer  :beer

Thanks!!!!

I will be back with more questions as I dig deeper into this.

If they do implement automatic full screen video, what do you think the process would be for a user to select a song as the video is playing? And then after x seconds would it go back to full screen video?

I downloaded a product by NCH software called Pixxillion Image Converter and converted a bunch  of Youtube FLV files to MP4's.

Worked great.   Created Artist Folders to group videos by artist or
Theme, ie... Sixties, Seventies, Woodstock.

I am having 2 problems.  A few of the "Albums " on the E-Touch Video screen do not show the Artist Name above the Cover Picture.

I checked on the Tagger again and it looks like the Group names are there.  Where (What field)exactly does the Group Name above the Album Cover Image on the Video selection screen get propagated from???

Also the Last "Album " on the first Video selection screen, STEPPENWOLF, is repeated as the FIRST Album on the second Video selection screen....   I only have a few albums(collections of artists videos) on the second screen.  I can't find any duplicate Steppenwolf files or folders in my directories.  Any thoughts??

2 screens for this to work as you really want it too! 1 for the video, the other for the E-Touch interface. But you can watch a video, then tap the video, and the now playing screen will re-appear, then hit the 'back' button, select more of what you want, then go back to the now playing screen, tap the video for full screen again!

I'm glad I could help as I hope this helps others as well.

Also it helps take the load off Barry so he can develope the software more! <--- shameless butt kissing!  :-*

Go to the E-Touch folder and delete these files:
video.bak
video.cvr
video.rec
video.rex

Then re-run the config 4.exe for videos and see if that doesnt clear things up for you.

Where (What field)exactly does the Group Name above the Album Cover Image on the Video selection screen get propagated from???

If i know this I could manually check for the proper values on the tagger.

Title: Re: tagging music videos

Lets start fresh and delete the previous 4 files as mentioned earlier. (if you havent made any tags or used the config 4.exe to make a library for videos yet, then these files wont exist and skip part 1 <-- for those following along that havent tried to make tags yet.)

Part 1:
Where ever you installed E-Touch, go to that folder.

Delete theese files.

video.bak
video.cvr
video.rec
video.rex

Part 2:
Open the Non MP3 tagger

When opened, direct the Non MP3 tagger to where your videos are stored.
You will see all your folders with the different Artist/Album names. For Artist, I use the Artist/Band name. For a compilation, I use the Album name.

Make sure the 'Mask' is set to see your type of video file. If its already in the list, just click/tap 'Set Mask' to re-save the mask.

Part 3:

Open the folder for the Artist/Album you want to make tags for.
All the video files that the 'Mask' has been set to are shown. All of mine are MP4's

You will see the box wth the % values. Lets take a look at how that works. The values follow the file name.

Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown.mp4
    (Artist)           (track no)         (song title)

If you see in the pic above, the Artist has a %1 value. So from my file, %1 will be Big Momma Thornton.
Track No. has %5 so the 16 will be %5. Song title is %2, %2 for this file will be Down Home Shakedown.
So in the % values box, it will be %1 - %5 - %2 (%1<space>dash<space>%5<space>dash><space>%2)

Make sure you have the 'Auto Change on Save File' ticked!

Now that the % values are set. Click 'Populate ALL from Filename' button. Here you will have all the videos within that folder have a tag created. To make this a little easier, MANUALLY fill in the CD Title/Album Name. Then click/tap 'Copy To ALL' button. This will re-write the tags with the CD/Album name
Do the same for Genre if you want.

To automatically fill in the CD Title/Album name - genre, your file name will have to look like this:

The American Folk & Blues Festival Vol 2 - Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown - Blues.mp4

That is one long file name! But if you choose to have a file name like that, then on the % values line it will look like this:

%3 - %1 - %5 - %2 - %7

Then if you click/tap 'Populate ALL From Filename' all will be filled in and if 'Auto Save on File Change' has been ticked, then the tags were all re-written.

Here is what the tag will look like when opened with notepad. It is also editable here too!

Now open up the config 4.exe and add your videos to E-Touch!

I am straightened out so far now. I am learning to finagle the Tagger to get it to do what I want now. I do not fully understand all the syntax and stuff yet but I am plowing through it and getting it to work.

For some reason the Artist Name was being propagated into the %5
Trk No. field.  I had to delete all of them.

Also, I am not sure if you reposition the % values in what effect it will have .  Or where / how those items would be displayed.

%1 - %5 - %2 ,  what if I instead used %2 - %5 -%1
I haven't tried it yet as I am afraid of screwing up all the work I did.
Does the ORDER above matter or will the correct fields be placed on the video album screen regardless of what order the Tagger has them in?

I also discovered an album are search piece in there that is neat. So I am getting some covers for vids I did not have art work for.

I can't figure what TEST does.

I have deleted the 4 VIDEO.xxx files from the E-Touch pgm directory a # of times now, but the last album on my first video screen is repeated as the 1st album on the second screen.  I think there is a bug somewhere.

Thanks again for your help.  I am making headway now.

%1 - %5 - %2 ,  what if I instead used %2 - %5 -%1

In my example, Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown.mp4

If I used  the %2 - %5 - %1 then it will show up like this:

Big Momma Thornton as the song title,
the %5 will still be the song number,
then Down Home Shakedown will show up as the Artist.

Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown.mp4
        %2                %5                 %1

Lets break down the files name:

Artist - # - Song title.file type

Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown.mp4

The file name is broken up by the (-).

most file names are Artist - # - Song title.file type

But some have it as song title - artist.file type. Either way you have it the filename needs to be broken down.

<whatever here> - <whatever here> - <whatever here>
      %1-%7                %1-%7                %1-%7

Big Mama Thornton - 16 - Down Home Shakedown.mp4
        %1                %5                  %2

So if I had my filenames Down Home Shakedown - 16 - Big Momma Thornton.mp4 then my stings will be %2 - %5 - %1

or if it was just Big Momma Thornton - Down Home Shakedown.mp4 then the string would be %1 - %2

By chance are you missing the %# on the Non MP3 Tagger?

Glad we're making progress!
