Title: Serial or USB connection for touchscreen?
Post by: bzpilot on March 11, 2008, 08:45:39 AM
I have a 17" ELO Touchscreen and was wondering if there was any benefit to either the serial or usb connection.

The only issue I can think of is when I've used a serial connection in the past (for instance a GPS) it would sometimes cause issues especially during bootup if it was sending information.

Thanks.

I've always used serial and it's been fine. I think the USB just sets up a virtual com port and works like a serial one anyway.

Serial works fine, I have had several machines running serial, keep in mind however if you add a LED screen it will most likely be serial as well and most machines nowadays have only 1 serial port on board which would mean if you do you would have to purchase a USB to Serial adapter.

Also for the record the couple of USB touchscreens I have used come with their own drivers and the computer does not see them as a serial device (com port)
