Just bought a new computer and bigger touch screen monitor and upgraded form v8 to v10. I've managed to import most of the settings, fan art files and play history but fan art isn't working. I'm using the updated Black n Blue skin (tried the default skins as well) and I've got the boxes checked on the options screen and it was working no problems on the old computer so I'm stumped. I'm missing something simple (as is usually the case) but any help appreciated
How do you mean you are importing the settings? Are you copying files from your version 8 directory to 10?
Check the opacity levels on the sliders are set high enough.
Mark - I made a note of the settings I had in v8 and tried to set as many the same as I could in v10 through the options screen
Barry - Yep, tried the sliders in heaps of positions before posting, no joy. I notice there are two sliders for each option. What are they designed to do?
Fanart working my end sadly, I hate the stuff.
My settings, in button settings
Easier to show a screen grab
Hope this helps.
Regards
Mark
Thanks Mark
My settings
You have those three ticked but a lot of settings missing. I am surprised it works lol
Yeah, a lot of stuff that I don't use or want the boys to be able to use. Surely some of those settings can't be linked to fan art not showing could they?
I presume you do actually have fan art in the fan art folder?
I would check config 9 and check to see if you have grab artist from audiodb.
Regards
Mark
Yep, the same image files from the previous version that was working
I don't have "grab artist from audiodb" checked either. There IS an "album artist tag" option that wasn't there in the previous version, but I have artist and album artist tagged the same way for all albums/tracks so that shouldn't matter either way should it?
I would tick that and generate database again just to make sure all the files are lined up, nothing to lose.
Just tried with and without "album artist tag" checked...no luck either way :(
I have included a pic of my config 9 settings.
Just to check,
1) You installed outside of c:\program files and you installed as administrator?
2) You are running the program as administrator? Including config9
Regards
Mark
Yep, installed in c: and running both as admin
Tick the grab artist info on config.
Did you physically copy any files across from one set up to another, or is it all newly generated?
If you did copy files across, I would get rid of the lot and start again. I would also look at your tagging as I notice that you have pop, 80's for example. It is not good having stuff like that.
I am going to get you set up and working, even if I have to stay up all night
Cheers Mark
Newly generated files
Manually set options in program
Copied fan art files into folder...actually, now that I think about it...when I first did the install I went to copy the fan art images into the fan art folder but there wasn't a fan art folder. So I just copy/pasted the whole folder into the directory, named "Fanart" just the same as v8's folder. Could that have something to do with it?
The genres thing is from media monkey. I never use genres in etouch but tried checking the options like you had in your config to see if it made any difference
Yeah a folder called Fanart should have been generated.
I would delete all your fanart and then generate with getting from audio db ticked. I am shooting a barrel of fish here, but I always try the unexpected and it works in the end
Giving that a go. Looks like the audiodb download might take a while though :)
If need be I would suggest making a temp folder, copy about 10 artists maybe, and point to that directory if you want to test something quick. I will check around my settings and see if there is anything else
I have gone through my config, and nothing in the settings on the program that would affect the fanart, so I think it has something to do with config 9.
Also take a look at this for tagging http://www.freeboxjukebox.com/Forum/index.php?topic=6010.0 I was messing around with mp3 tag, until I found this, I went through my back catalogue that I was retagging within days and with MP3 tag it was taking weeks, months until I was fed up of it, but thanks to this I now have a second wind for tagging.
I dunno if it makes any difference but mine is called config10
It will work same way or should be
It's about halfway through the generating db and it looks like the fanart images are being created in the arists/images folder instead of the fanart folder in v8...
From memory Fant Art is a manual process as in you need to gran it yourself. It's always created a folder for me though.
AudioDB will grab Artist Info and Bios. I could be wrong though.
Brad
Audiodb did get the banners, info and bios as well as filling the artist/image folder with pics of the artists but those don't show anywhere that I can see.
I can see the banners but still no fan art. Where exactly are the fanart files supposed to go?
My fanart is in
c:\jukebox software\Fanart
2 Unlimited
jpeg x 2
In the text file it says this Place fanart images here named artist.jpg
Regards
Mark
Yep, got that too. It was the same for my v8 folder which I copied across
Sounds like you're using v9 Mark which seems to be working the same with the same settings as my old v8. Has something changed from v8/v9 to v10 because I see the artist folder now has a few sub folders (images, audio, related, video) and obviously fanart isn't working for me using the same settings that I was using in v8?
Do you have a folder for each artist under the fanart folder? So you have say;
\fanart\beck\image1.jpg
This is so you can have multiple images for each artist.
And there it is...see...I told you it would be something simple
V10 now requires a subfolder for each artist in the fanart folder. Works great now, cheers everyone for the help. That's why I love this software and this forum :beer
Now I'm going to spend the next few weeks creating folders for each artist :tommy ;D
Couple of questions on the subject:
- The two sliders under the fanart choices, why have two for each transparency?
- What are the images in the artist/images folder used for?
The sliders alter than transparency on different screens.

Surely this can be automated?
I would think that generating a library with Fan Art checked would also create the folders?
Brad
It used to scrape and create fanart. I have been sorting out one of my other computers, so installed etouch tonight, but need to put some music files on, but I was having fanart scrape for me. I certainly would not put fanart for artists, infact I hate fanart with a passion, as if a skinner has not positioned correctly then it looks bloody awful.
I don't mind banners and logos so much, but you create a skin, and then suddenly have Peter Andre for example face on your screen, it is a waste of time designing, even more so with his face
It is not bad if you lower the transparency and have it on a black background, so barely showing.
However with my fanart it was creating a directory and then calling files such as ad8948r5934.jpg inside of that artist directory.
I might try tonight or tomorrow as need to transfer some files over oh sod it will try now, otherwise I won't be able to sleep, it will keep going on in my mind lol
Back soon
Ok forget that idea, I cannot do nothing until tomorrow as I took my SSD out and used it for my arcade cabinet, so I need to format a hard drive tomorrow and install windows for a stop gap.
Sorry for my unusual (coughs) rant, but I hate fanart lol

I can't find that option, but then again I've missed other obvious things here as well ;D
I've been looking for a script or something to automatically create the folders but none of the options I've found work
Honestly on version 9 it was scraping the fanart itself I think it then stopped for a bit, and then restarted. I have no mp3s to do a test on this computer, and gone 1am here now, so cannot be bothered to hook up the other PC to try it out.
I just checked a directory on this computer, and I have fanart and very recent fanart as well, as I was doing the charts so I started from 1950's onwards and I have directories for
Bing Crosby
Doris Day
Frank Sinatra
Jo Stafford
etc
I know I certainly did not set up fanart folders for it.

I just ticked 'Grab Artist Info From AUDIODB' in the E-Touch Config software & this created all the necessary FanArt Artist Folders & jpg files in the main Fanart folder for me. I am using the very latest version of V10, I will admit though, this did take a good two or three hours to complete.

I thank you, I said about config 9 and ticking that box since page 1, but as per usual no one listens to me :( lol
I just done generate library on a new hard drive, and I have 129 fan arts in my directory, generated automatically via the program, no creating directories etc myself.
That's what I thought as I've never created these folders. I also have a backup of all that data so I don't have to re-download it. The audiodb options take so long to grab.
I use fan art and when transparency is set to low I think it looks fantastic.
Brad
Yeah it can do, it can obviously go down, but also scraping too much can be a bad thing all at once. It might have a timeout set and with probably millions now scraping every day, it takes a hammering.
As you say though, you really need the transparency set to a low to get the best from it, and I think a black background looks a lot better, sadly you cannot set things up for that when skinning, I have seen some skins, and they look good, and then suddenly you have fanart sticking out like a sore thumb, but also part of the skin design, so it is like having two clashing wall papers on you front room wall.
It would be great in an ideal World, if you could make a skin, and think set transparency to 10 in the skin settings, and then the skin is ready to go. If someone does not have transparency on it really looks odd and intimidating as some people don't want to play around with options, myself included, just want something that works out the box.

Quick update. Finally found an easy program called "Files 2 Folders" that helped with the creating folders thing. Dunno if anyone else will ever run into this issue but I'll leave this here just in case
Files-2-Folders (http://skwire.dcmembers.com/wb/pages/software/files-2-folder.php)
Cheers again guys :beer
Just tried the files 2 folders thing, and very cool, I can imagine that this would save a bit of time when doing music videos, so shall try that out the next time that I start downloading videos again.
