Title: Can't See My Video's Play, But I Can Hear Them...And yes my eyes are open :)
Post by: caesar on July 09, 2007, 09:48:06 PM
Hello,
OK, I've got the audio MP3 player figured out, so now I'm trying the video.
I created a video folder, tagged it.  ;D  And I can select a video, but only the audio plays.  ??? With no error messages.
Where does the video get displayed?  :(

I made sure that I didn't have any other monitors selected under "Options".
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Click on the album icon at the top of the screen, it should take you to the "now playing" screen were it will normally display the cover.jpg when you played mp3's. Instead of the cover.jpg the video will be displayed here. If not download and install a good codec pack and see if the problem is solved.

                                                                                    :D

try searching the K-Lite codec pack on www.betanews.com that tends to install most of the codecs you should need.

i'll give it a try right now...assuming my videos are tagged correctly, they should immediatly start working on my second screen?  or i'll probly need to rebuild the library.  i had them working once, but the quality was very poor and pixelated, im hoping its because i didnt have this codecs then...'lli mess with it for awhile and see what happens

i found out with testing with netcat today... in windows you need your screens to be set to the same resolution and to be set side by side with screen 1 to the left of screen 2. If you can't see the blank video window on your second monitor this could be why... It is set via the screen properties.

ok, im going to check this out now and see if thats how im set, in the mean time im getting runtime 13...only when i hit the videos tab. everything else is still perfect. although my karoake plays sound with no video. hopefully its this setting issue.

For you karaoke you need to install the codec included in the zip file with the freebox distribution.

-yep, did that!  when the music starts it will kick winamp off, flash both screens, then go to my windows background... agian, if i uncheck the use second screen box, the words come up in the now playing box, but scramble up terribly after a few lines and are completly unreadable, like it cant refresh as it goes.

-my moniters are both 800x600, 1 on left, 2 on right.. and identities pop as so on screen.. ive got a mix of mpeg, wmv, and avi..that shouldnt matter right?  im at a loss now.

Dude it's nothing to do with winamp... Do not have the check box enabled for winamp then try. Also make the option use second screen for all not just videos.

yea i know,..as it was stated before, i was just saying what i see happening. my second screen goes immediatly to my windows background and i guess its trying to show the image but its just my background. and ive tried all 3 monitor selections. 3 goes blank/black. the other two stay on my background..i tried all that you mentioned prior with no success.

, yes! ,  i saw a brief title at the bottom of the screen that didnt fit the screen,,,,but now the music wont start. its just sitting their at 0:00, an 2nd screen is blank again..i tried several songs. any ideas?

add- just to add to this, now when i hit video tab it imediatly kicks me out of freebox, no errors or warnings..not sure what to make of it and FYI

-ok, wierd, just for the hell of it i switched it back to another monitor "2"  and the karaoke music started right up...now what??

Hello,
Mystery Solved!
I wasn't clicking the "Now Playing" icon on the top right corner, I was clicking the "Album" tab on the left column.
Thanks Again!

ceaser,  im assuming your using just the one monitor right? and its displaying in your now playing box? i push now playing and it just shows me the album art

-barcrest, i just retagged my videos just because, but im still getting kicked out without warning as soon as i press the video tab. heres my directory c:/videos/random videos/tracks
                                                                       /anime/tracks.
is two subfolders enough? i only have ten videos, so i had to find others movies just to make another subfolder....each has its own image. basically i set them up identical to the music directory.

-im gonna hold off trying to figure out the karoake for now until i atleast finish organizing what i have.

You really want a few videos, i organised them by artist.... You do need a few sub folders (Albums) whe you build the video database.

Does your video database show up correctly in the config?

ok, i'll break up the few i have right now, as they come up various artist in the config.. i try to make them all their perspective artists right now.

well that did the trick for showing up the albums!! however, now just like the karaoke, it gets hung up at 0:00.. the video image appears on the 2nd, im guessing the very first frame, and locks their with no sound.  oh, and i just noticed it says "text 11" where the artist should be next to the time. actually where the time should be, and in all the lists of tracks where time is usually shown.
it doesnt lock freebox or anything because as soon as i hit next it plays my audio no prob.

Right you are almost there... Follow this check list...

Media Player 11 installed?
K-Lite Mega Codec Installed?
Karaoke Plugin installed?
Direct X (Latest version for your o/s)

If you have those 4 things installed (In that order) then tell us what format your videos are in, are the MPG, WMV or AVI. If they are different (Different codecs) have you stired them all. I suspect you need to install the latest media player.

ok, well that was fun, i didnt have wmp11, so that is up to par now. i reinstalled the klite codecs and veriufied the karaoke install. i didnt have dirext x and got that too. i hadnt updated in awhile i guess since its just in the juke. still no succes tho.
-here are some pic of what im seeing, not sure if it will help towards the solution tho.
(http://a904.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/86/l_cf21c64a69127d9243edc05c83733cff.jpg)here its showing its locked up and doesnt quite fit the screen properly
(http://a328.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/96/l_0682551661f3febdb4aac55b6c73a46f.jpg)her the quality is so piss poor. any video, any format will come out distorted, when i play the videos on my other computer there perfeclty normal. am i still missing something? oddly tho, my other cpu doesnt have half the things ive been downloading into the juke.
(http://a461.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/84/l_98656672f3c4380ef213d60af7b5d2ac.jpg) and i played a video normally just to see and through the 2nd monitor its hardly readable

-right, im using mpeg, avi, and wmv, all randomly. do i need to make them all the same? or atleast the same format for each seperate folder? im going to seperate each format and try them one at a time. i guess im more confused as to why the videos would play correctly in an older cpu with less installs than a less than a year old cpu with everything listed.....

any ideas??  if nothing else, i just recieved my new hard drive in the mail(upgrading to 500gig).. so maybe a fresh install of everything will be the answer.. i am hoping to just clone everything over tho. im going to have to do this again with the new project im working on too..uughh

I tried to use the video once and realized I heard sound, but no video because well I didn't have a second monitor hooked up. ;) Just throwing that out there because it might not be obvious to some.  ;D

Ddue what are you running that second monitor on? It looks like it's too low res and doesn't have the right bit depth set? Is it running on a second graphics card? If so do you have the right drivers installed cause that looks like it's running on a 256k isa card.

You need to set it to 16bit colour depth at least.

i have the box but not the manual anymore, its an MSI fx5200-td128lf...i know big help huh? it has dvi/vga/tv-out, i have the vga to the touch, and dvi to the tv....settings were at their highest-32-bit.. ive been thinking it may have been a video card issue back when i first bought it,,  im currently formatting the new drive on the system, but as soon as its done, i'll switch back and confirm the settings and see about reinstalling the driver disk..i'll look online more detail about the card...
-would you recomend just getting a dual vga card? i only have one pci slot available, the video card is agp, and i thought dual vidoe cards could only be on SLI MB's

Dude the TV out should work, it sounds like you don't have the colour depth set correctly on it. I used TV out on my NVIDA to out put to my TV.  When you get chance let us know the settings and we will try to work you through this. I have not got my old 1mb PCI card to tes on this dev machine i threw it out so i have set up my jukebox panel... it will take me another 30 minutes or so to get it running then i can do some testing here.

Actually fairly painless, but i am generating the library so you'll have to bear with me. It was running a really old version of freebox. It's about time i tested the new version on my P700 panel anyway to check for speed issues etc.

Right i have it working pretty much first time. I do have some videos that hang though and don't play. This is to do with codec issues though i know it is. Because they play on my dev machine, i think nero installed some codecs that let some of them play because active movie uses filters or something not actual codecs but it's all linked in.

well, i tried 16 bit and 32, unplugged the dvi and used tv-out(same as the s-video right?)
-reinstalled video card drivers.
-same results all around...everything hangs, bit depth all F'd, and most labels on 2nd monitor when choosing video or karoke dont fit on the screen...........one difference though, is when windows is loading it mimicks everything,, my logo actually fits on the screen but the transitions are terrible.. flashing, distortion, the works.
-tv settings maybe, hell it cant hurt to try........
-oh, and that dam "text 11" in the place of all the times, which lets me know its not going to work before i even press add to queue.

dude... Run freebox in windowed mode then set the second screen to be number 1... it should be on the same screen infront of freebox. Just bring freebox to the front using the taskbare and try and play, do they play behind freebox? come on msn man it will be easier to trouble shoot.. barcrest@hotmail.com

Hello Draginit,
Yes, I'm just using my pc's monitor for now, 17" widescreen 1280 x 800. Videos are pixelated, but is that the quality of the video?  :-\  I only have a couple .mpg's so I'm not aware of the full potential. I'm sure high quality videos are larger files, the ones I have are approx. 60-70mb each. I found them on the web  :-\
Thanks!

Hello,
Even in full screen mode?
Where's a good place to find some high quality music videos? (For test purposes, cough, cough)
Which formats are better than others?
Thanks!

my video files are small too, but thats not my video quality problem, cuz they play clear in the mainscreen ans other cpu's and never on the second screen...
barry do you sleep? haha

hey, my karake plays fine in the mainscreen all behind freebox as it was set earlier, i have 1 video, just one! that will play on the 2nd monitor low quality...

barry,..netcat,..thank you for taking the time to help!!   believe it or not, im working now :o.. i guess i just had too much crap on that old hardrive or something. now its just videos so far, im about to add karaoke in a minute, but if videos are working im sure the karaoke will fire right up.
-heres the real kicker,  i didnt install any codecs..only wmp11, and a fresh xp pro install...not even direct x.  so the depth is there and the colors are very accurate, but there is slight pixelation now but i think its no more than what ceaser was referring to with just low quality videos. just gotta find a good source im sure.  and finally it does put the videos just slightly off center of the tv with a thin silver border. but maybe this is where the codecs will come into play??   i feel like i wasted your guys time, but i picked up on a few things and really appreciate your time!! i can now catch up with everyone else. haha

-netcat, the issue with the settings reverting back is no longer an issue, it saves and everything is good..too weird.

-i dont know if this too added to the element, but i had that harddrive in a prior cpu and forgot it was a  ahem "corp serial#".... so maybe my new copy of windows had something to do with it...just adding any info i can think of.
