Title: Can Arrow Keys be used as Key Shortcuts?
Post by: eist1 on September 04, 2008, 03:03:15 PM
I was wondering if there is a way to get the arrow keys to work as key shortcuts. I don't see the option for it in the key shortcut dropdown box.

Actually, are you trying to get the arrow keys to work regular key  shortcuts? Like the left arrow key working as, say down volume, and the right arrow key working as up volume?   If so they do.  Go to this website, click on the box, and hit the keys you want to find the CHR$ for.  Then use that CHR$ number for the key shortcut, regardless of what it says.  http://www.cambiaresearch.com/c4/702b8cd1-e5b0-42e6-83ac-25f0306e3e25/Javascript-Char-Codes-Key-Codes.aspx

I have the left and right arrow keys mapped to volume, and up and down keys mapped to the slider.  Works for me.

Of course, ignore this post if I didn't understand what you were trying to do.

Cary,

That worked perfectly!!! Thanks.

Barry,

You will want to look at the list from the link above as the current characters in the dropdown boxes do not match the correct keys. As I used CHR 37-Left Arrow, CHR39-Right Arrow, CHR-38-Up Arrow, CHR40-Down Arrow and it is working perfectly for paging and volume using the arrows. This may be why some of the keys don't work from the dropdown as they are labeled incorrectly.

Glad that worked.  I noticed some of the keys were wrong a long time ago, just thought it was my Windoze installation.  I did notice some of my shortcuts won't work at all though, no matter what I try.  I can never seem to get Play Next or Play Now to work no matter what shortcut I use.  Do you have to have those buttons enabled on the screen to work, or should they work even if you have them turned off to the user?

The buttons have to be enabled to work.

Oh well, too bad.  I turn them off for the user, but would have liked to access them from a hidden keyboard if I wanted to.

Is that also true for the Skip track button?  I have been trying to get the shortcut keys to work so that I can skip tracks from another machine when I remotely log into it with VNC.
