Title: Recently upgraded from 4.13 to 4.19 - Different behavior with compilations
Post by: fat-johnny on November 18, 2008, 07:21:14 PM
All,

I recently upgraded from 4.13 to 4.19, and something has changed with the way the config program creates the database.

I do not use the option to "Use album name for compilations" (or however it is worded).  Let me explain what has changed.

I have a lot of albums that are various artists, compilations, soundtracks, and my wife and I have our own "favorites" albums (singles that otherwise we don't have on an album anywhere else in the library).

These are all in the folder "Various Artists", but the field of "Album Artist" is tagged differently:
1) My wife and I favorite albums has an Album Artist of "### Favorites ###".  I added the number signs so that back in the day, when I used The PC Jukebox, they appeared at the very top of the library.
2) The Soundtracks are tagged with an Album Artist of "Soundtrack"
3) All other compilations are tagged with Album Artist of "Various Artists"

The way 4.13 worked:
All of these would appear under "V" for Various Artists.  The "## Favorites ###" would show up first, followed by the "Soundtrack", followed by the "Various Artists"  I would touch "V" on the right-side scroll bar, and it would jump down to V, starting with Van Halen....but then a a few albums later was the Various Artists (starting with ### Favorites ###, then Soundtrack, then Various Artists)

The new way 4.19 works:
1) All the sudden, my ### Favorites ### albums are at the top of the library again, just like they used to be in The PC Jukebox.  Yippee!!  But the artist displayed on the screen still shows as "Various Artists"
2) Those tagged as "Soundtrack" show up under "S", but the artist displayed on the screen still shows as "Various Artists"
3) Those tagged as "Various Artists" show up under "V", and the artist displayed on the screen still shows as "Various Artists"

The problem I am having is when I want to listen to any of those Various Artists albums, I would usually touch "V" on the right-side scroll bar, and it would jump down to V.  Currently, it doesn't jump anywhere, it just hangs there.  The only way to "clear" the hang-up it to press the down scroll arrow, and it shows that it is at the very top of my library (where the ### Favorites ### are).

I think having my "### Favorites ###" (which display as Various Artists) up top, my Soundtracks (which display as Various Artists) in the middle, and the real Various Artists at the bottom, the program is getting confused as to where the real "V" is when I try to jump to it.

Does that make sense?  Anybody else seeing this.  Anybody know why this is doing this?  Any way we could get the config program to read the "Album Artists" tag for compilations?

Let me know,
Thanks,
Fat Johnny

You are probably using the album name on compilations, It's an option in the config. This is why nothing happens when you jump to V because there is nothing at V.
