How does Freebox handle compilations. Currently it looks as though the compilations are being listed by the first artist in the compilation with the album name. When a track for the compilation is playing it is listed as the first artist(incorrect one) of the compilation and and the correct track name.
I have my compilation mp3s tag as follows:
Artist: Artist Name (Not Various Artists)
Album: Compilation Name (i.e. Sounds of the Eighties)
Title: Track name
Compilation checked in tag & rename...Is this a iTunes only thing though?
Compilations seem to be a tricky subject from what I can tell. Without there really being a consistent "compilation" bit in the ID3 tags it seems rather tricky to handle these in such programs as Freebox.
So, do I need to change my tagging convention? I'd rather not cause the method I am using seems most logical...at least to me anyway, which, ultimately is all that matters to right? hahaha ;D But if I have to change the tags to make Freebox like me, I guess I am on board. If I do, what is the naming convention that I need to use? Something like below or is there another way?
Artist=Various Artist
Album=Compilation Name
Title=Artist - Track
If you have each album in it's own folder freebox will look at the artist tags and if they are different it will put them as various artist in the album browser and will show the artist names under the track list screen with the track titles.
I do have each one in it's own folder....
For instance,
c:\music\Various Artists - Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 1\
c:\music\Various Artists - Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 2\
c:\music\Various Artists - Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 3\
Track names are
01 - Duran Duran - Rio.mp3
etc...
Tags are:
Artist: Duran Duran
Album: Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 1
Title: Rio
Album browser show:
Duran Duran - Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 1
Playing Tracks Show:
Duran Duran - Tainted Love (when I select a track other than the first)
But in the album browser I see the artist of the first track and then the compilation name. When I select the album and go into the "detail" view I see all the tracks listed as expected. It is not showing the artist as "Various Artists" in the album browser. I have tried both settings for compilations in the config.....
Am I doing something wrong?
What version are you running?
Also when you go into the track listing screen do you see the artists listed as well as the track names or just the track names?
I'm using 4.0.19.
When I go into the track listing I just see the track names, As I would expect....Although, now that I see that it would be hard for someone that is not familiar with music in that compilation to know who sings what...
Sounds like the album isn't tagged right. Are you sure each track has a different artist in the tag? You need to be editting the ID3V2 tag.
Duran Duran - Tainted Love
Duran Duran didn't do that, it's Soft cell.
The reason you don't see artist names when you enter the compilation is because they all have a matching artist tag.
;D haha I know it is Soft Cell but that is the problem. THe first track is Duran Duran - Rio and the 4th track is Soft Cell - Tainted Love. But in Freebox album browser the album shows up as Duran Duran - Sounds of the Eighties and when I go into the track list view I see all the tracks as just the titles Rio, Tainted Love, etc. When I select a track, let's say Tainted Love, the screen then displays Duran Duran - Tainted Love....It says that Duran Duran is the artist on all the tracks on the Sounds of the Eighties compilation.
My tagging is how I mentioned above...
Album="Sounds Of The Eighties"
Artist="Duran Duran"
Title="Rio"
I see some people use Various Artists as the Artist and combine the artist/title in the title field...
Album="Sounds Of The Eighties"
Artists="Various Artists"
Title="Duran Duran - Rio"
Let me see if I can put together some screenshots and the mp3s I am using into a zip file for you to download.
IT is 100% an issue with the tags then. Because the information shown on the now playing screen is pulled from the tags.
You can try and sync your ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags to see if that fixes it.
Yep, That was it. The tags were screwed up. This was tagged with a program I was using prior to finding Tag & Rename. I had no idea that they were so screwed up ???
Just my luck too that this was the one I picked to test with....duh
I loaded them up in Freebox after correcting them and they are exactly as I would want them displayed....awesome
Thanks for your help.... :beer
No worries, glad we solved it dude. I was getting worried as i couldn't replicate the issue. :beer
