Title: Shuffle Queue Button
Post by: dermbrian on May 25, 2009, 06:54:33 PM
OK, so if I use the search screen and type in "Sinatra", I get 300+ hits.

If I add all the results to the queue and then go into the queue and hit "Shuffle Queue", the songs don't seem to be very shuffled.  They still seem to be grouped to some degree by album and then by alphabetical order.  My Track # is part of my title name like this:  "06 - Fly Me To The Moon"

So even after shuffling, I see things like this:

Several from a particular album
02 - One For My Baby
06 - Fly Me To The Moon
11 - Witchcraft

Then several from another album
03 - Hey, Jealous Lover
04 - Chicago
08 - Love and Marriage
09 - Willow Weep For Me

etc.....

....always in alphabetical order, it appears.

Is there a way to select all songs by an artist and then really totally shuffle the queue randomly for playing?  Should "Shuffle Queue" button do that, or is it doing something else that I don't fully understand?

I just tested this on my juke and I didnt get too many songs from the same album too close together.

I used Ozzy Osbourne, added all 15 albums. 4 are 'Best Of' type albums and the shuffle seemed to keep the repeat songs but on another album at least 10 songs from each other.

dermbrian, do you have the queue set to a limit size?

No.  The selection for maximum queue size is unchecked in the Coin Settings menu.  To be safe, I changed the number in there to 1000.

On closer examination, it isn't always alphabetical order for the songs from the same album in the 'shuffled' queue, but it usually is.  It's like it shuffles chunks of songs instead of each song individually.  There will usually be a large number of songs from one album, then a large number of songs from another album, and only rarely a song or two from unrelated albums separating them.  It's just not really very random.

I was hoping I could queue up a whole bunch of albums (all tracks) and then shuffle the queue to make a random mix, but it's not working like that.

Could this be because I'm using the demo?  On the cusp of paying...really....

I've noticed this shuffle behavior as well.  I don't have any of the details or specifics though.  I  have been pressing the shuffle button a bunch of times to get the queue scrambled a bit more.

I'm with dermbrian - it would be nice to load all tracks from a number of albums and the shuffle them with one press of the button.

I've always noticed this same behavior with the shuffle button. I do the same and just hit it a bunch of times. it would be nice if it did a better job of randomizing the queue.

I also still want my "shuffle queue on track change" option back. Barr took it out of V5. I may have been the only one that ever used much though. :P

I could add that back in i suppose, i don't remember why i removed it. Is the option just greyed out or removed totally? I can check when i get home and see if i can get it working.

It's been removed totally. I know the play options are real cramped for space, but that would be awesome if you put it back in.

I took it out because of the next song display not being relevant. The shuffle queue button should now shuffle better than previously anyway.

That's fine. Thanks for the fix, Barr!
