It would be nice if there was an option to only list the artists at first without listing all their albums as well. Maybe look for the first album cover and use that, or fan art... Is there a way to do this, without using the filter system, that displays no artist image or album artwork?

It sounds like Filter by Artist is what you are asking for, does exactly what you are requesting.
Yeah I am aware of that, I just wish it worked like the albums / artist screen like what you see at the start. With large album / artist covers. Possibly use the fan art images for the buttons. Click on those and get all the albums by that artist.
