Title: etouch using netwok drive
Post by: jukejohn on April 24, 2010, 11:57:38 AM
well my network is up and running and did a test using about 12 albums and was very pleased with the result there was about 1 second delay when you made a selection but i was ok with that the problem is now  that ive done about 150 gb in music and run generate library and 1 hour later still waiting to get past 1st base
barry is there any way to make it more wireless friendly as this does seem the way forward these days
im going out for the hour will leave it running just hope it acknowledges the library when i get back if not it looks like ill have to scrap the idea
HELP :downer

Does my 2 TB USB drive in about that time. Dude it's not E-Touch making it that slow it's a limitation of the technology.

Welp wireless is what 54mbs and wired is easily 100mbs. Just from that alone your looking at a twice the time. Of course its not moving that much data, but you have to use something for a guage of time. ;)

USB drive is 400Mbs
E-sata drive directly plugged in is what 3Gbs.

Personally the only way to go if all possible is wired, but if thats not your option then patience is the only way.

This is how I run mine. I have a couple of drives in my Jukebox.
100gig or whatever it is for the OS
500gig drive for my tunes. All of my tunes are on that drive because its the fastest method of scanning and simply running.
Wireless Connection

When I add more music is via wireless, but the way I do it is this way:
I use this app. http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp basically I keep all my tunes on my little network backed up of course and when I add more or change album covers they are stored on the network. I can listen to my music anywhere I have a PC, but when it comes do to parties and get togethers Freebox on my Jukebox is the only way to go. I use that app and use the Run Enabled Job and it scans Juke locally and compairs any files that might be different with the network and then downloads them. Sure I could use something more elaborate, but honestly I really like the simplicity of that app and I only run it when I fee the need to do so.

My real reason for doing so is if my Juke dies I have everything backed up elsewhere and of course I have my network backed up so I would say I nearly have 3 copies of everything, which is bizarre to say, but I guess I do.
