Title: Tagging Help?
Post by: Meph on November 23, 2011, 12:35:59 PM
I just went though and fixed the tags for 90 gigs of music last night (15k songs).  I used to use MP3Tagger but a post here turned me on to Tag & Rename and now I would never go back.  The problem I am having is when I started tagging my Christmas stuff this morning.

Anyone here know the tag masks enough to help me fix my compilation discs.  As you can see from the pics below, because it is a compilation, it has the artist as the compilation name.  The problem is that once I get into Etouch I only have a song list but don't know who the artist is.  For christmas compilations that can be an issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to tag the artist field with the correct artist name.

If you use tag from filename the mask would be...

%6 - %1 - %2

That album looks like it was a 3CD album originally. I keep mine separated by disc using CD1 CD2 etc on the end of the album name and each having it's own folder.

for christmas albums i also tag the genre as Christmas so i can exclude it during most of the year when i don't want it shown.

Yeah it was a 3 disc album.  I actually have 24 gigs of christmas albums and since most of them are multiple discs, some as big as 6, I started combining them so I wasn't scrolling page after page just to skip 2 or 3 albums at a time.

I have the genre tagged as Christmas and started making collections.  I know how to exclude genres from random play but do you mean you can exclude them from displaying entirely?

Thanks for the mask, I will get those tagged properly now.

Ok, that mask worked perfectly but now I have another issue.  When selecting a song the titles display perfectly but on the album view it is displaying the first track as the title.

Does the album show as a compilation album in the config? It should do in which case it should show as various artists in E-ouch.

So it has the 1 flag for a compilation album. It should also be listed as various artists in there, i'm thinking because it is one album on it's own that is why it isn't being tagged as various.

Ok, I put the album back in with its original 4 disc structure and now its all working fine.

Quotefor christmas albums i also tag the genre as Christmas so i can exclude it during most of the year when i don't want it shown.

So how do you do that?  I was planning to remove them from the database after Christmas so they wouldn't display but if there is a way to just filter out Genres I will do that instead.

In the E-Touch options there is a list of genres you can pin code access too, put a tick in the box to exclude selected genres and any in the right hand box will not show up.
