I found a plugin (well an app) that allows saved Shoutcast Playlists (.pls) to play in Windows Media Player. It's called PLS2WMP. All you need to do is go to Shoutcast http://www.shoutcast.com (http://www.shoutcast.com) and right click Tune In! on one of the Radio Stations and "Save Target As" and download it to a folder on your PC. Then download the pls2wmp.exe http://www.download.com/Pls2wmp/3000-2169_4-10861372.html (http://www.download.com/Pls2wmp/3000-2169_4-10861372.html) After the file is downloaded extract it into the folder and then right click on the Shoutcast .pls file you downloaded and goto Open With/Choose Program and browse to the
PLS2WMP.exe file and make sure to check "Always Use Selected Program" Then all you have to do is double click the Shoutcast .pls file and now Windows Media Player opens it up and plays it, including the ID3 info (Radio Station Name). I have also sent this info to Barry to see if he can allow Freebox to see these Playlists, so it can be an option to load the Streaming Radio Playlists in Freebox from the Playlists page. I know he's currently busy with the config, but hopefully he can look at it.
GREAT IDEA, maybe even relay that info to the LED sign
Yes as long as the ID3 Tag can be read, It will show the Radio Station name on the LED sign (It shows it in WMP). I have written to the author of pls2wmp to see if there is a way to pull the Artist/Title from the Radio Stream, as those show up in regular stream players, but only the station name shows up when using pls2wmp. He has the source code posted. Here's the link to the page with the Source Code on it, maybe one of the coders on here could take a look http://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/pls2wmp.aspx?fid=1467953&df=90&mpp=25&noise=3&sort=Position&view=Quick&select=2627498 (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/pls2wmp.aspx?fid=1467953&df=90&mpp=25&noise=3&sort=Position&view=Quick&select=2627498)
I think its funny that this came up. I actually mentioned shoutcast to Barcrest last week or some time frame ago.
Not 100% sure how it would blend in, but its always a fun option to think about.
One i have the config sorted out I will look at this.
Thought I'd refresh this post as to how to play Shoutcast streaming radio stations in WMP. I've ask Barry to look into allowing these Streaming Radio Playlist links to be seen/used by Freebox. Think it would be a very nice Playlist option...
BTW, anyone interested in 80's Rock, I found an awesome 80's hairband channel, been listening all day working on my condo, no commercials, try it out
Goto Shoutcast.com and do a search for 181.FM - 80's Hairband Channel and then choose the 128 bitrate channel sounds really good quality
Been rockin to awesome tunes all day... Let me know what you think
This is still in the todo list, just polishing up what we already have is taking a little longer than i would have hoped. Although i am quite liking the new config now.
