Title: 'Album Art' ID3 tag support
Post by: tomruffner on August 12, 2010, 02:05:42 AM
Great software, I'm a new user just getting started and trying to build my first touch screen jukebox.  This software is exactly what I'm looking for for my jukebox.  I indexed my library for the first time...I spent years tagging my 500GB collection, all based on the Album Art tag.  I get for example Neil Young Greatest Hits showing up under G for Greatest Hits because some of the tracks have an artist of Neil Young, some are Crazy Horse, etc...If I can use the Album Art tag, this will show up for me under Neil Young, with all the other Neil Young albums.

I searched the forum and realize this has been requested several times before, but wanted to add my plug for it too.

So far everything else is great...investigating how to make my payment to get the full version!

Tom

Well to get the full version it's pretty straight forward. You just need to paypal me at barcrest@hotmail.com if the paypal button on the top of the forum doesn't work.

$25 for standard access to the current and past versions.
$50 for lifetime access giving access to exclusive skins and beta releases.
$250 for the commercial version which supports use of coin mechs.

As for album art tag i assume you mean album artist? I can look at adding support for this, I will probably do it via a checkbox in the config that says uses album artist for artist. If it is straight forward then I will get it in a future release for you.

Barry, if your thinking of including album artist tag, please consider letting us decide, by checkbox, which it reads, and which it displays.  That way, it could read, and alphabetize, say, Billy Joel as Joel, Billy (from Album Artist), but display it as Billy Joel, from the regular artist tag.  (I know it would take a while to retag a huge amount of artists for some of us, but this is one thing I really want.)  (Just not sure how this would affect Various Artists, as I tag them as Various on the main artist tag. Have to think about that.)

The only way i would change this is to offer the ability to use the album artist in place of the artist when building the library. In the jukebox when playing the tracks it would still use the artist field.

Yes, I'm sorry, I was referring specifically to the 'Album ArtIST' ID3 tag.  When an album's tracks have more than one artist in the 'Artist' tag, I'd like to be able to use the 'Album Artist' field instead of the 'Album' field.  Or, like Cary_B suggested, a user selection--user can select whether or not to use the 'Album Artist' field or the 'Album' field.

For all the multiple artist albums I have with an Album Artist = "Various Artists" or "Original Soundtrack" it would make sense to use the Album tag.  For all the other multiple artist albums I have, it would make sense to use the Album Artist tag.  At least this is what I think would be best for the way I have my tags, (but I'm not requesting any specific code to work just for my case)...
