it shows now playing info and the songfacts stuff if you have it. They will display more as i add the functions in... like credit info, next song coming up.. top 10 songs etc.

Im currently using a serial comport to run my Touch screen, but I have another one on this machine. Are they USB or serial?

they are serial I for instance have only one serial port on my jukebix (Currently being used by my touchscreen), In order to get around this problem I use the LED sign with one of these converters

I have the same issue as netcat with only one serial port and it is being used for my touch screen. I Currently have a Beta Brite and was wondering if any knows or has used one of those usb to serial cables with a Beta Brite or knows if it would work. It noted on the website that it is not recognized as a standard com port and was not sure if Freeox would recognize it. I do have a free pci slot and could put in an i/o card if needed, but would like to use the usb to serial if possible.

Casper is correct, i am in the UK and these signs are not easy to come by especially at this price. You can get some cheap ones but they will not connect to your p.c.

That would read as follows in config line: 2400,n,8,1
BE CAREFUL, FREEBOX HAS A BUG IF YOU ENTER THIS INFO INCORRECTLY FREEBOX WILL CRASH UPON STARTING

my sign arrived today got it up and running with freebox and it looks good. the thing is that its super fast is there a way of slowing it down also it only shows two colors red and green can this be changed . also when running with songfacts it shows the 1st fact but not the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th it shows no facts it just says false on the sign were the fact should be..that said good price thanks netcat
Ah so there is a bug with the songfacts display then. I will look into this, no one else pointed it out but it sounds like it is a bug. I will set my jukebox up and test it. Thanks for letting me know casper.

Tamsy, you would need to obtain V3 if you want freebox to work with this LED sign. It isn't supported in V2.20

i can really help out here. i noticed immediatly i too only had one bracket in the box. so that makes 3 us now. but im not concerned cuz i work with metal and make these type things everyday at work and wont be using theres anyways. so if anyone else needs these brackets made or maybe even custom brackets as i'll be making for mine i can produce them quickly with no effort. just let me know some measurements for any custom brackets and i can hook it up.

Can either of you point me to any resources for programming this display from my own software?
I know that it comes with a program for setting up messages, but I'd like to use it with some of my own programs.
I've read the user manual, but it only talks about the included program; it doesn't have any
information about the serial communications protocol used by the display.

most in PureBasic (GREAT language, BTW: www.purebasic.com (http://www.purebasic.com)).
I can use your source code in QBasic (mentioned by Tony) or C/C++.

Actually if Tony has sent you the Qbasic source mine is no different just coded in VB. It is basically just the case of sending a correctly formatted string to the com port. The tricky part is getting the header right, after that it's plain sailing. If you search on the web there are PDF versions of the ALPHA SIGNS command structure and what CHR codes you need to send.

I DID receive confirmation from the vendor today that he still has them, pricing is going to depend on the amount we order I believe for 5 or 6 we sill may be able to get them for arounf $100.
I BELIEVE last time shipping to outside the US was about $20 more, can one of the International people that ordered last time confirm this for me ??

Uppon receiving a load of requests, I tracked down the supplier, noegotiated pricing again and posted the offer to put together an order (this was 2 month ago)
I received 1 reply, and am not making anything off of these signs.
We need to order at least 10 to get the right price and there doesnt appear to be any interest.

looks like orc beat me too it, shame the cheap one doesnt connect to a pc. 99 quid for a colour screen isn't bad is it?? Still a tad steep for me to invest though....
I think with shipping the ones netcat can get would be cheaper. He was doing them $100 shipped US so even at $150 that is only about £75 and we know those ones work.
They do come up on ebay, look under LED TICKER. Problem if you get one off ebay i might not be able to support it. However if it connects to a PC I should be able to.
What is the specification or standard or method that Freebox is talking with the LED signs? or how do I know if a Led sign can work with Freebox? I found this one but unsure if it will work..

The betabrite setting using a standard alpha sign codeset. If you get a sign and it can recieve info from the computer via the com port then i should be able to get it to work.

I am not sure it is. Netcat needs paying upfront so he can place all the orders. No one was in for that so the second order never got placed. :(

Looks like there are still some of these Chinese LED signs available if anyone is interested. They do make a nice addition to the jukebox.
