Title: Updated Charts file?
Post by: Nforce2 on October 09, 2016, 12:39:59 PM
Anyone have, and is willing to share, an updated Charts file? Think it is up to June 2015 with the latest etouch version. Thanks in advance

I don't have to be honest as it is the lowest thing on my list, but with me getting back to skinning at the moment, I think that you can do 40 chart entries on screen.

I am still not sure what that is 100% but if I remember the old files, they only used to have 10 entries and that was once a month rather than weekly.

As soon as I work it out and what it does, then I want to go back to the start and then add the top 40 which is going to take a while.

Regards

Mark

What country? I have a script to generate Australian charts. I'm sure I can translate it to anything though

I personally want to do UK,usa and Australia I don't really fancy other countries but I do love Australia hence my interest in that.

America's charts are huge with a lot of variety and love Country as well. I am not sure how many charts you can do now it used to be six. I think it will still be six but as I am skinning I might possibly leave it to three, or if not then have novelty charts.

All a lot of work and never ending.

I just looked now, and indeed it is still 6 place holders.

So my way of thinking considering that the UK and US are the biggest charts of them all, and the fact that Australia is English speaking.

You could have UK singles and albums charts as 2 and then follow that with the USA and Australia.

I think I was doing that before, but then I always get distracted in one way shape or form.

However you can do other things with the collections screen as well, so you can add more depth and scope the only bad thing with that, is that it is 9 place holders and not 10 grrrr lol

Although I love this program, but it is also a pain in my backside as well. You want to skin for everything but unless you want the same designs all of the time, then you have to think outside of the box.

Still I am going off on one now, as I am trying to skin at the same time, so I have moved god knows how many icons around, but got fed up of it, so just taken a screen grab, so I can see what looks the best, and what I need to strip to make the design work.

Mine is now downloading the UK charts automatically  ;)

It is currently downloading the top 100, I need to probably reduce that. Not sure if this will be any use to anyone, but it saves me having to update those.

In etouch?

Including the tracks?

Would love this, top 40 would be enough for me.

I personally would love top 100 however if this can be adapted for other Countries then some only go up to top 40 such as the Australian charts.

Well infact they go to less http://www.ariacharts.com.au/

Damm I have to download the best of the wiggles and 50 top songs from Playschool.

Inxs and the rest can go to hell.

Yeah UK Official only at the moment, and it will use that for any chart selected as well. So if you go to say Australian and have a missing entry it will populate it from the UK charts so not ideal. I am going to release a beta for you guys to play with, I have also tried to make the downloading of the tracks more robust but who knows how that will work out.

The problem with all this online stuff is it's hacks and page scraping and so it isn't easy to do a perfect way as each site is different.

I have to say this, but you really need to concentrate on the basics first. In this respect I mean

Have a basic program it works (no optional extras which could fail in 2 years time)

Then add optional extras

As you know a scraper, a website can go down within two seconds, Youtube can change different things, so the optional extras built into a program can be a bad thing.

Local is always the key if you suddenly get hit by a bus tomorrow, god forbid it does not happen, but those optional extras will end up failing in the future, so unless you can keep updating something, then too much is a bad thing.

Everything local works, you can turn off these online features if you don't use them or they break. There is nothing left to add to improve the way it all works locally. Essentially most of my jukebox works with the local stuff, I only use the online search on the rare occasion i don't have a track someone requests, that isn't often. When using the tablet storage is an issue so then I have to use the online heavilly and the wifi is weak in the pub which is why i am trying to get that function more stable it already works fine at home.
