Title: singles skin
Post by: jukejohn on March 17, 2017, 02:28:27 PM
would love to see a old style single skin something like the dwjukebox program offers but etouch could make
it look cool with the extras added

I know etouch is album based and you can set it up to play a single track but a old style
title strip layout would be cool maybe a image of artist/band on the strip

dam wish I could get the hang of skinning

Easy enough to do, even more simpler than doing it for everything. I am back skinning going to run with the idea I have at the moment. If you can include a screen shot of what you mean.

I was going to do different screens, but I am going to run with a basic theme, and then edit it maybe later on, otherwise I will be skinning it for years lol

This way will be a lot faster. (ISH)

I hope I'm not going to be a Debbie Downer now  :downer but unless I'm missing something (like a setting in E-Touch etc.) I'm unsure how this could work without completely reorganising your music library.

From my limited understanding of E-Touch, you would need to place one song (or video) into it's own individual folder along with an accompanying cover.jpg, then tick the 'jump to play options on single track'  & do it that way.

Unless of course, you already have you music collection organised this way, then fair enough :D

It only takes two seconds when you know how, I am turning all my albums into singles. I will try and look at doing a guide and a video I can do a mini one now, although just a list of software

Files to folders
MP3 Tag
Tag Scanner

I have 20 mins to spare, share do a quick video for you.

well im a little ahead with that I did a singles collection ages ago when I used my etouch for singles only
and I must say was more of a enjoyable experience played a lot of stuff I would have missed on albums plus
im a lazy type so found it a smother way way of paging and browsing

you can use WinRAR to zip tracks set it to put into separate folders job done and maybe put artist or record image into folders which took the longest
to do but don't mind as its all part of this enjoyable amazing world of mp3 jukeboxs

Probably tomorrow now, I will write a guide on the settings I use. Berry does not realise there are short cuts if you play with the software.

135 tracks in less than 4 minutes, it can be faster than that as well, but was recording.

I shall leave this skin idea in your capable hands :)

You don't really need a special skin for singles I did see a much better one for that software years ago. All what you really need to do is just find a skin that you like and then just add singles, have that as audio and have nothing for albums or karaoke, can even strip some of the functions out.

Title: Re: singles skin
Post by: berrywell on March 18, 2017, 09:38:21 AM
Yeah, I know you can use pretty much any of the existing skins for this type of music library but John was specifically asking for a skin layout like the one's he posted, unless I've misread his posts.

Old age is making me myopic, are you basically sorting by artist there mark?
Title: Re: singles skin
Post by: Mark Norville on March 18, 2017, 12:03:20 PM
I am not 100% sure what you mean, but if you mean in the video I am doing my albums splitting them into singles and loading them as karaoke files, although you could have them as audio if you do not want albums.

You could do a compilation album in the same way, but you would need it in that folder, which would show more as random songs, or obviously if you are doing single songs each week on release then it will show as various.

I have used the artist image for the singles, the reason why I done this for, was because the albums already have the album cover, the music videos I have a thumbnail from the video, and I really wanted something different for the singles, so I choose the artist thumb.

I am still trying to work things out how I want my collection, on my actual jukebox I have albums, singles and music videos. I am thinking about on the arcade cabinet then I might just have singles.

I am literally getting back up to speed after taking a long break and getting all of the computers back up and running, although they are not 100% but I am back skinning and tagging again.

Hopefully, this is what you was asking about?

Mark

im hoping for a look alike ish of the dwjuke skins but thinking about it you would need
2 track albums to get it to look appear as having A side and B side  label or just do a one track label

what ever you create as a singles only skin will be great to see and a refreshing change  mark  :beer

John, you already have a singles only skin in all skins.

All that you need to do is not include any albums or music videos. It will only display the singles. You do not need to design a skin just for singles, unless it is something specific such as this.

im aware you can use etouch as a singles only still use that option now

I was hoping for a skin designed just for singles
in a singles layout like the pictures I uploaded as a to put  ideas out there

no worries was a big ask ill have to have another go with skin tool someday lol

thanks mark  :beer

You would need to do a lot of work to get this working in eTouch to be honest.

Skinning it would be reasonably hardish, but it would be a nightmare for tagging as well.

I am taking a break as was taking a weekend off, but been skinning all day, and trying to think if you could actually do something like that on here is blowing my mind.

All that I can think off is having two files in one folder, naming them to match each other.

You might have work arounds somewhere, but it really would be a nightmare.

cool mark
thanks for giving it time and thought

was thinking if I could go into skin tool to list albums as one long genre scrolling bar
and change the track selection as a  set of label types and hey presto a singles modified skin   maybe  ???

was a big ask
will try one day with skin tool might get lucky as you say its very time consuming

You just need to create a cov file that doesn't have the images only text and create a backdrop with the title strips graphics on. You could do it to any skin although you would probably want to change other screens to match the style. It would be a quick job with the right images.
Title: Re: singles skin
Post by: jukejohn on March 19, 2017, 01:48:26 PM
would be cool baz
I have a lot of respect for dwjukebox as im aware you do also and many others on the jukebox scene
as cool as it looks its limited to functions as it was meant to be simple
however if it had extras like genre/search/2nd screen options/ it would be loads better

that's were etouch could take care of this but not only a big ask for someone to do its not for the
younger folk on here either so wouldn't be that popular

If you only wanted one track per label (rather than the A and B sides label) then this, as Barry says, could be made fairly easily, the hardest part would be making the actual graphic background.
Title: Re: singles skin

You could do both if you put two songs into a folder and labelled them as such. I have not tried this, but this would be a major hassle, tagging and skinning.

You could download a graphic which is easy enough to find https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=jukebox+card+template&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjX1-PYtuPSAhXEh5AKHbeSCioQ_AUIBigB&biw=1920&bih=950

You could even possibly be able to use part of the skin from the other software.

Not a project for the faint hearted though.

Million pounds and I will do it for you John ;)

Mark

A and B tracks are not supported but a single track would be very easy to do. Sorry berry not looked at your skin as i have a new job now...  :tommy I always hoped this would be my main income but alas it just about covers it's own costs.

God don't make me give this a try, I know this might be possible.

2 singles in one folder and setting default screen to track listings. I swear there is a work around, but just too much tagging to make it worth it's time.

I am curious now, I want a play tomorrow.

For the A and B that would be a graphic,

I'm getting a little confused now so can I ask for someone to clarify exactly what's trying to be achieved here.

1.) Is it to achieve what is in those original picture uploads, where there is a Side A & Side B & the artist name in the centre?
[e.g.]
a1 - Track Title
   Artist
a2 - Track Title

2.) To have just one track (& artist) per label?
[e.g.]
a1 - Track Title
       Artist

3. ) To have two tracks per label with the artist name at the side of the track?
[e.g.]
a1 - Track Title / Artist
a2 - Track Title / Artist

I honestly do not have a clue, blame the OAP that started the thread.

2 and 3 would be easy enough to do though.

Mark,

Can I assume you're working on this skin idea & I should leave it with you??

After all, it would be pointless two people working on it.

God no I am not touching this with a barge pole lol

I am finishing off my skin that I have been doing since before Xmas, and then finishing off another skin for my smaller monitor.

All of this is far too much hassle doing a skin that only one person might use.

So is anyone doing this skin? I could have a look at knocking something up but i seriously am time poor right now :(
Title: Re: singles skin
Post by: Mark Norville on March 21, 2017, 07:15:57 PM
Definitely not for me, if I did have a look it would not be for possibly months. It just does not appeal to me, and no fun skinning for something I would not use. I am more into modern technology and apart from one person, the chances are someone else using it would be pretty slim. It is just time-consuming.

If there were new customers because of the skin, then obviously that would be a good thing, but then you need to do youtube videos, and attacking the other software, as in targeting their users.

You need to show the hidden skins to get people interested enough to purchase if you do not show the lifetime skins, people do not know what they are paying extra for.

Mark

Option 2 or 3 is probably more commercial orientated and/or user friendly based on what people are use to seeing, and to a certain extent already achievable.

If the day was another 4 hours longer I would have a look myself.

Pain in the backside, I was bored and had a play.

Excuse poor quality video, as I say was just messing around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIzSYDYTzxA

Blame it on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon.

I will carry on playing around with it in my spare time.

Completion date : WITHIN THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS (It is not my thing, as I say I was bored so started playing)

To get the full effect, it would mean you need to change a lot of settings, and probably tag and store a lot differently.

This is just a pet project now, and not high on my list so please do not expect this for months, years etc as I do not skin for fun.

Mark
