Title: Tagging mp4's for artist
Post by: sparkie15 on January 09, 2018, 11:51:38 AM
Hi I'm having trouble tagging the artist filter with mp4's ive gagged the genre and year no no bother but cannot tag the artist filter with any of my mp4's.  First queation  is can it be done with mp4s and second question is what am I doing wrong.  I've got all my mp4's in my video folder and scan videos from there.  All my mp3's in my music folder and scan them from there.  I can see the mp3's in the artist filter but not the mp4's.  Tried various tags with no joy.
Any help would be appreciated.. Cheers

Firstly what tagger are you using?

Secondly yes of course it can be done.

Thirdly you need a special file for music videos on etouch.

I'm using mp3tag and its tagging all the mp4s properly and all the mp4s play with no issues at all.  The only issue I'm having is tagging them with the artist filter.  Also I just added 1 music folder only to the audio folder to make life simpler and that comes up as various artists.  Its now 98 but shows no tag info for various artists.  Been trying to compare them to see where I'm going wrong..

Are you following my guide to the letter?

You need a file called artist.mp4.tag to use music videos in etouch which looks like this

<NonMP3Tag>
   <Artist>Niall Horan</Artist>
   <Title>Too Much To Ask</Title>
   <Album>Too Much To Ask</Album>
   <Band>Niall Horan</Band>
   <Track>24</Track>
   <Year>2017</Year>
   <Genre>Pop Music</Genre>
   <CommentTitle></CommentTitle>
   <CommentText></CommentText>
   <Seconds></Seconds>
   <Duration>03:45</Duration>
</NonMP3Tag>

So a blank one would be

<NonMP3Tag>
   <Artist>%artist%</Artist>
   <Title>%title%</Title>
   <Album>%title%</Album>
   <Band>%artist%</Band>
   <Track>%track%</Track>
   <Year>%year%</Year>
   <Genre>%genre%</Genre>
   <CommentTitle></CommentTitle>
   <CommentText></CommentText>
   <Seconds></Seconds>
   <Duration>%_length%</Duration>
</NonMP3Tag>

Ive been tagging them individually with mp3 tag as ive been comfortable with that and its worked for everything but artist filter on videos.  I wouldn't know where to start with your method as I read it and didn't understand it. I don't want to have to go through and tag another 275 mp4s another way but surely you must be able to tag a artist tag that etouch recognises..

How can you not understand my guide, it is idiot proof? I should know this idiot wrote it.

My way is automatic, it takes two seconds without any typing to do a music video.

Take your time, read it slowly, everything is there step by step for you.

Still looks more complicated than what I'm used to doing.  I just want to tag each mp4 so it will be recognised in etouch as an artist filter.  Is there a way just by using mp3tag when loading mp4.  I don't have to write anything just copy and paste and that includes the artwork as well.

You still need that mp4.tag file to be in the directory

music videos do not find them on their own, it needs the file. It is the same as kodi, you need a nfo file as the universal scraper is useless.

I just tagged an mp4 file with no problems

So how can I input that tag file on its own as I have already got all my music videos on my drive so would have to tag them manually.  How do I add the artist tag.
Cheers

Can I not just add the nfo file then tag manually through mp3 tag.  If so how do I import the tag file

You really are not listening to what I am saying. I will make this my last reply on this matter, as you are not listening to my help or advice.

Firstly you need for a music video

The folder

The music video

An image of the music video

A mp4.tag file

You can either try using the non mp3 tagger in the etouch directory.

We are just going around in circles here.

Mark

Sorry Mark I am listening but trying not to have to grab all my mp4s again using your method.  I have the folder and the music video same name also an image for the video.  The only thing I am missing is the tag file.. I assumed that when loading the mp4 into mp3tag it would generate a file as everything else I've done through mp3tag had worked so far.  What I was asking is if you could add the tag file so it can then be done manually through mp3tag.  Every mp4 I have is already tagged with artist name and song name and shows in etouch with no issues other than video filter.  If I had to start all over with mp4s the artist filter is something I will have to live without..Perhaps I'm just a bigger idiot that I thought..

I exported the tag file you had in your tutorial and here to one mp4 this is what I have but still wont recognise artist filter.  The mp3 tag file is exported as a html.

Mark I am listening to you but I don't think you understand me.  I would have to start again with over 270 music videos with this method. I will use it for future but it doesn't solve my issue with the 270 vidoes I already have.  There must be a way to add a tag for it to recognise the tag I have already generated.  Or another program to tag it as artist so it will be recoignised in filter. My frustration is the year and genre are recognised just not the artist.  This has to be something that can be sorted without starting again..

270 is nothing, it takes seconds using my method, I could have the job done in less than an hour.

End of conversation sorry.

Tried your way and still issues which is what I'm trying to explain.  Etouch should recognise these images attached the issue is somewhere else.
Images attached

You do not have the files matching that is why it is not working

Even though I said end of conversation but looking at the picture you have the mp4 with 00 and then a completly different tag file, so it is not going to work anyway.

Does it pick up the tags for genre and year? Am I correct in thinking your issue is just it doesn't add them to the artist filter?

Having the band filled as well as the artist would fill in the tags properly, it is what the non mp3 tagger uses.

It works fine and dandy for version 9, so unless some new bugs in version 10 then everything should work for him.

Dare I ask, are you running as admin?

Yeah running as admin and yeah just need artist filter  all other tags work perfectly as well as art and thumbnails.  Cant understand why it wont show artist..
Thanks

I presume you have created your library before hand and now just updating?

I would delete all video files from the etouch directory and then generate library again

Maybe on a test few videos, that have been tagged properly and are named the same as the mp4.tag file

The mp4.tag file should be a text file and not winamp

I've even deleted etouch and associated files and reinstalled and still same issue all music and video files tagged apart from artist filter on videos.

Firstly I would recommend looking at your directory structure.

You have 2 unlimited - song title, 2 pac feat dre drey - song title

You will have a lot of problems in the future if you want to transfer files across

I am doing into weeks e.g the charts but I used to have it as such

ARTIST DIRECTORY - 2 Unlimited
SONG DIRECTORY- Get Ready For This
SONG DIRECTORY - No Limits

Your file naming leaves a lot to be desired, I would imagine that this might be one of your problems, anything above 255 characters will be a problem.

I am not on my work PC, so do not have etouch installed on here,

Download this https://1drv.ms/f/s!AomP_UjArPHUdZMMVHsYdAQV1FA it has been tested on my pc so include it into your video folder and then generate

Yeah I did that and the niall video doesn't show in my artist filter either it shows exactly the same as all my other mp4s do.  So I'm guessing its not a tag problem.?

What version of etouch are you using?

I know for myself that should have worked as it is installed on my system with no problems at all

Well after 6 hours of messing about and bothering mark it turned out to be latest v10 beta that was causing the issues.  Went to v10 latest stable release and hey presto.  Knew I wasn't that stupid when it came to tagging.  Now the big question is now that they all show in the filter there is no image for each artist as it looks like I have to copy artist image into artist image folder is that correct or is there an easier way.
Cheers and sorry Mark for all the questions I owe u..

Typical the slack brumie coding more bugs.

The Niall horan folder should be all you need

It should show the image as in the folder.

I bet if you went to version 9 it would all work

No the niall horan folder shows just the same as mine do.  No image but there are images within that no image folder..

My bad, the image needs to be part of the tag, it is not part of the folder.

I have it there, mainly just for show.

In fact forget what I said up there, and click on use first image found, so you have a folder or a cover jpg file.

in appearance on options:  Display 1st image found is the option on v10 and it doesn't work for filter images. It looks like its a long slog adding images to the cvr counterpart again.

I wouldn't bother to be honest, download version 9 and have it so that it works, you don't want to create more work for yourself when it is bug fixing that needs to happen.

I am on 9.20 and works just great.

It will load I don't think that there is much between 9 and 10 to be honest. You can use version 7 skin on version 9 or 10 but then you lose some of the features.

It could work, and save you a lot of hassle. Get your jukebox running faster without having to mess around with cvr files etc etc, no bugs.

The list goes on.

For the filters each CVR file that is created needs an associated JPG to show on the filter screen. As all the CVR's are in one folder you couldn't use 1st image found. I really don't recommend using 1st image found as it is slower than specifying a filename.

So do I have to find a jpeg and name it the same as the cvr for each individual one as I thought.  Wow that's what I thought and already started last night you would think the cvr could tag a first image upon writing and could use one of the images within the folder as it would be easier perhaps alphabetical order rather than first image to save time. Surely this can be adapted into the program for artist as there could be hundreds and hundreds of them.

If it pulled the image for the first album that would work but it wouldn't look right and for genre and year would make no sense. This is why it uses it's own image, you could of course change that filter page to have no images and just be text and no images would be required then.

Yeah I understand and have images for all cvr's for genre and year but thought for artist first cover found would be fine.
