Hot Hits limit

Looking back through some old posts there were discussions of how
to limit the number of entries that get recorded in the most_played.dat
file (where I suppose is where the "Hot Hits" page derives its data
from). I think that Barry proposed some methods of manually editing
the file - I guess to remove the entries with the least number of
plays.

Is there a way, or are there any plans to be able to set a limit
of entries so you could have a "top 40" or "top 100" or whatever
you desired, and have this done automatically - IOW without
requiring operator intervention?

Over time, that list, as well as the history data (which I realize
the commercial operators need for their reporting), can become
quite large. In the case of the Hot Hits, you can end up with
a very large amount of entries to weed through, with a good
many with only 1 play.

Doesn't need to be fancy, in fact just a simple registry entry would
suffice since setting up a limit would only (typically) be done once,
when the system is being built.

Thanks in advance...
