Hi Guys

i use tag and rename for all my music which is pretty close to perfectly tagged

EXCEPT genre

does anyone know a good tool to mass tag about 2500 albums with genre tags?

I tag all my files with Tag and Rename (including genre).  Are all 2500 albums going to get the same Genre ?.

In T&R you can tag multiple albums at the same time so if you know which albums you want to tag with say "Rock" you could create a folder titled Rock, drag all your sub folders into that one.  In the navigation window on the left click on the Rock folder.   Then click on the "search sub folders" button in T&R (looks like 2 yellow folders with a dotted line).  Expand all the folders (eg all your albums), select all and then change the Genre.

Is that what you are asking ?

nar, i want to tag the 2500 albums with the appropriate genre, not the same which seems quite hard

ehh, gotcha,  Yeah when I worked on my collection I just went through and used Freedb.  Click the folder, have it auto select all tracks, click freedb or Web button, when it found the album have the only "field" checked being the Genre.  Painful but I haven't found a better way either.

I don't have all my genre's and years tagged it's just too much work. I try and do it with anything new i add but i just don't have the time to go back and do it retrospectivly.

All of mine are tagged, but I used a program called magic tagger
http://www.magic-tagger.com/eng/index.php

However keep in mind if something is wrong it will screw it up. ;)

Also make sure you test it on a few first and double check the settings because it can and will do things you don't like, but once you have it where you like it its great. I've done over 1400 albums with it. Of course there are some mistakes, but I've fixed them.

I normally run the app on an album and let it tell you what it thinks. I make a change if needed and hit the save button. I have mine setup so I put all my need to be tagged albums in a folder called "Working" and run the app. It scans, grabs data and when its done moves it into a folder I created called "done" The ones in the done folder I run another program called mp3gain that adjusts the volume to 89.0db and I then grab my album covers. When I'm done with everything in the "done" folder I put them in their location in my "mp3" folder which is where my Juke looks for mp3's to play from.

Sure its a little bit of work, but I always know what files are in what locations need what done to them. If they are in "done" I know they need a cover and/or volume control, but I know they are tagged.
I'm not around 100% so please feel free to PM if you need direct help. Trust me I'm not ignoring you in a post. ;)

Becuase Genres are important to me I made folders for genres and then placed the artists who come under that. Obviously not all genres are going to be the same for other people but it sure helps and makes it easy to tag and create great music.
