HOW TO: Clean Up Your Music Collection
« on: May 11, 2009, 12:25:38 PM »
What is it?
These are a couple of 3rd party tools to help you weed out and fix bad/corrupt MP3 files from your collection.

How To?
Download MP3Test  from the following link;

http://www.maf-soft.de/mp3test/

Under Options choose a sepatate directory for the Damaged files and check the box to keep the file structure (IMPORTANT), then all you then need to do is run MP3Test to separate the good files from the bad.

Download AShampoo Music Studio 3.40

http://www.download.com/Ashampoo-Music-Studio/3000-2167_4-10025639.html
(Fully Working 30 Day Trial)

Point this at the Damaged directory created with MP3TEST to fix all of the bad ones in the Damaged folder and then just copy the contents of the Damaged folder back into your good music directory and it will put all of the songs back in place (files will now be fixed and still in the correct directory structure) doing it this way will save days using AShampoo, as it doesn't need to scan the good files. Then in the future if you run across some bad files just run it through AShampoo again.

Additional:
You may also like to run MP3 Gain (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/) through your audio library to make sure the volume level is consistant across all your audio files.

What would be the best way to go about using these utils? Most of the mp3's I used to have no trouble with when I used another Jukebox gave me no problems and now I get errors a lot of errors and when I run the mp3test I got over 2000 songs it said were bad. Will the util that fixes them put them back where they belong or should I do this one folder at a time... that would suck big time.

It will fix them all and put them in a seperate directory so you can then copy them back to where you want them once you have verified they are fixed and work ok

If you checked the box to keep the folder structure it will duplicate the folder structure so you can just copy them back all at once.

As no one has answered you in 6 years. I will apologise and answer your question.

1) Music Videos six years on are totally different than 2009 but I would suggest downloading http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm#.VfGxE3lRGUk

2) When you download MP3 Gain http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/ it will make the same sound volume for MP3's and also videos downloaded from YouTube but you need to download the following first http://aacgain.altosdesign.com/

Copy the file across to where you installed MP3 Gain and rename the file to MP3 Gain.

This will then equal both MP3 and MP4 videos that you can download from YouTube.

If your MP3 or MP4 is corrupt,  I would suggest ripping your original media again, as obviously downloading from another source is illegal so we do not wish to break the law here.

Six years and no one answered shame on you people lol
