Part 2 of E-Touch Easy Install

So far, we have installed our E-Touch Jukebox Software

Now we need to do a little house keeping with our music. This process can take a while

Our music needs to be in mp3 format with our ID3 tags in order.
There are many-many ID3 tag programs out there and the one you use is up to you.

As with Part 1, the instructions will be BELOW each graphic.

E-Touch uses a file structure like this:
hard drive
hard drive\music location
hard drive\music location\artist name
hard drive\music location\artist name\album
hard drive\music location\artist name\album\song.mp3
hard drive\music location\artist name\album\song.mp3
hard drive\music location\artist name\album\song.mp3
hard drive\music location\artist name\album\cover.jpg
hard drive\music location\artist name\album\coversmall.jpg

I recommend you create a folder for your music on your main hard drive ( Usually c: ).
For this turtorial we're going to use c:\music

You can see that I have c:\music with 2 folders: Genesis & The Doors
All you need is the band name here.

When I double click c:\music\Genesis you will see another folder: The Hits (album name)

When I double click c:\music\Genesis\the Hits you see the MP3 files and 2 .jpgs
The MP3's are tagged with the Artists, Albumn Name, Song Title
(some use genre, year, comments and that is up to you).

The .jpgs are the album cover. There is a cover.jpg and coversmall.jpg.
The .jpgs in each \artist name\album\ folder needs to be named cover.jpg and coversmall.jpg
I recommend the cover.jpg be no more than 400 X 400 in size. Having the cover any larger just takes
longer to load the .jpg.
I reccomend the coversmall.jpg to be no larger than 170 X 170 as this will speed up the loading time too!

Now that you've spent the time to get your music in order, lets get it loaded into E-Touch!

You need to open up the E-Touch configuration tool. It is located at
c:\program files\E-Touch jukebox\config 4.exe

Double Click the config 4 icon

Now that it is open, you will see in the upper left that audio is preselected from a dropdown menu.

We need to tell the config where our music is stored, so use the dropdown menu for the hard drive letter,
then select the c:\Music folder

Now you see the files in the folder. About half way down on the left side, you see 'Name Swap "The Who""Who,The"
If you want The Who to show up in "W" for "Who" as opposed to "T" for "The" then click this box.

In the bottom left hand corner you see a 'Generate Library' Button. Click it.

Here it is Generating the library.

Now it has found our music and it will build the database. click OK

Hopefully you get this message, 'Complete, No Errors Found' click OK

Now you see in the middle-bottom right you music in the library.
In the bottom left again, you see a Update Library button. Click it.

You will get a 'Records Loaded' Box. Click OK

you will get a similar box about finding the music and building the database. click OK

You get a 'complete, no Errors Found' box, click OK

Now the music has been found, library had been loaded into your E-Touch software.
Inthe middle of the bottom of the screen, you see a check box to start up E-Touch when exiting the config tool.
It's up to you if you want to use this feature. If checked, exit the config tool and E-touch will start!

If you followed the tutorial, you will see this when E-Touch starts up:

To add more music, open up the config4.exe and just hit the 'Update Library' button in the bottom left corner. You will then repeat these steps:

You will get a 'Records Loaded' Box. Click OK

you will get a similar box about finding the music and building the database. click OK

You get a 'complete, no Errors Found' box, click OK

Then Exit the config4.exe and E-Touch will start up with your new tunes where they should be!

Part 3 coming soon! - A walk around the software!

fordman,

Great job with the tutorial!!  :beer I see at the bottom you say to add more music to follow the steps above. You may want to mention to use Update to add additional music rather than Generate. I use Update so any new albums will show up as new when running the jukebox. Again great job!

Once the posts are tweaked i'll split these replies off and sticky them. Are you adding any screenshots?

Yeah good idea Barcrest. Its great to have replies so the author can get feedback, but often if replies have replies and the author well adds stuff it gets all discombobulated and its really hard to track.
I'm not around 100% so please feel free to PM if you need direct help. Trust me I'm not ignoring you in a post. ;)

kizer

Theres an app out there called Wink that will take screen shots as often as you tell it making sorta a ghetto video, but it works great for taking tons of screen shots. You just save what you want and delete the rest.

I'm not going to add anymore screenshots to this particular tuttorial. I adjust some text about the 'Update Library' to add new songs.

How would you organize various artist albums?

fordman

Good Question!

Follow the graphics below.

We'll use the Billboard Top Hits Folder.

Click on a compilation folder, for this, we'll choose Billboard Top Hits - 1975

You will notice that I have my files name like this:

Artist - # - Track name.mp3

My ID3 tag will be like this:

You see the ID3 tags song title, artist name are obvious, but the album name is 'Billboard Top Hits - 1975
The same name as the folder it is placed in.

When you rip a compilation CD make sure you have your settings like below.

Make sure the compilation box is checked with whatever you use to rip your CD's with. It will look like this below after its checked.

Notice the Artist Name and Track title are separated. Before all songs artist name would be Billboard Top Hits. It would have shown up like this: Billboard Top Hits - 01 - America-Sister Golden Hair.mp3

Now it will be named appropriately and show up like this:
America - 01 - Sister Golden Hair

And your ID3 tag will Reflect the compilation also!

I hope this helps and if you need more help, just ask!  :beer
