andowhy, do you want the australian charts ealier then what you have...i have done them from 1953

To Novalak... the ARIA charts only started being published in 1989 as far as I know. Does this mean you have charts that precede this, maybe from "Countdown" or a conjoined list from each state's major (at that stage AM) radio station i.e. 5AD etc.?

If so I'd love to see these... I'm using the charts to build the uber-single jukebox and it's interesting to note how little (maybe 50%) of crossover there is between the USA/UK/AUS charts... so I suspect, even though I've had a damn good crack at it, that maybe I've missed a few great Aussie artists/songs or even a few "global" artists in the earlier years that only charted in Oz (John (ny Cougar) Mellencamp had his first chart hits of "Miami" and ""I Need a Lover" in Oz and most yanks still think "Whatever happened to Midnight Oil" and think of them as a one-hit wonder and would be surprised to see the lead singer as a politician now).

John Cougar Mellencamp, in the UK his one hit wonder was "Jack and Diane"... I love that track.

I'd be interested in seeing these too. So many great aussie artists/songs that the rest of the world would not know about.

50's, 60's & 70's examples:

Johnny O'Keefe, Cole Joy and The Joy Boys, The Easybeats, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs (had a long competition with deep purple to be the loudest band), The Masters Apprentices, The Loved Ones, Max Merritt, Spectrum, Daddy Cool, Chain, Russell Morris, The Dingos, Lobby Lloyd, Sherbert, Hush, Skyhooks, John Paul Young.....I could go on and on and all of these people had number ones here.

Theres a nice set of australian chart archives from the defunct Go Set music magazine you can use from here:

Also just found this on wikipedia.....looks damn good:

Hi All,

February charts are live. I have also added the Pre-Aria charts from 1953-1988, thanks to Novalak for the hard work in supplying these.

You bloody ripper!!! .... just had a quick look through and reckon I've got most but there's some surprises in there.... ah, the memories ;o)

BTW, each line in the extra Aussie charts ends in ,. (instead of new.gif,down.gif or stay.gif) but I'll adjust my set since I need to check them all against my exact match standard anyway. Also a few directories had the extraction .bat and .pl file still in there.

Just for my interest, since these are not the ARIA charts, does anyone (Novalak?) know what the source actually was? I'm adjusting the pictures on my chart display to a glossy square flag anyway so I can keep them together.

BTW2 - andowhy... the UK Feb 2011 chart is present in the full download but not in the UK 2010/2011 download.

ok i can fix them, but to be honest i dont give a hoot about the up and down - it doesnt make a difference to me so i took them off

I have a script to put them back in, but in all honestly - why?

The .pl and .bat is my fault, they are some of my scripts i use to create it every month - you can delete those

Yeah i bought this book - http://www.austchartbook.com.au/
He talks about how he collected the data in the book, something likepublished record sales and radio plays or something - been while and the book is now destroyed
Then i scanned every page, OCR'd them then ran scripts over them - took weeks
I still have the pdfs though so i can look back

Coffee,

Sorry, I have been updating the website, but due to being out of town a fair bit recently I havent been on the forums to post update messages, but the charts are still being updated each month.

@Andyowhy... are you still around? I don't think we've had an update to these charts for a few months and I hope everything's okay?

If you've just otherwise been busy then, when you get a few minutes, would you mind providing the script you refer to and/or would you mind providing the URLs to the actual sites you scrape the information from?

More importantly, could you alert me as to exactly what DAY you do this on... I've been to what I think the sites are that you use before to try to "manually" create the files before your updates but mine never seem to exactly match what you end up producing - either a song or two sneaks in or out or the positions are slightly altered.

Hi Guys

The charts is a bit important. Is there no one here who is willing to keep this charts up to date for us?

It might be a case of having to do our own.
