weird laptop problem.. plugged in ok, on battery wont play and locks up !!!

I've got a samsung Q1 handheld computer and I've set up etouch on it and it plays just fine when it is plugged into the wall adapter, but when it's on battery power - even fully charged (which lasts about 5 hours) it wont play and it eventually locks up !  wtf ?  ive never seen this happen before.  very strange !  the computer works just fine for surfing, watching .avi's, etc.. except for etouch jukebox.  you can pick a song, hit play now, and it'll go back to the front page, try to play the song for a millisecond, then say "no song playing"

also, i just upgraded from version 5.36 to version 7 and i get the same behavior.  I've also noticed that the thumbnail text font has changed - it's gone from fat and readable to really skinny and hard to read.

any ideas or comments ??
