Hello

Decided to finally download tons of music videos from Youtube & build a little mp4 library.

Can you recommend the best way or app to tag them? I tried Media Monkey & it seemed to work but when I did the organize files by folders option it created a bunch of "unknown" folders instead of artist & album, and i believe had no option to type in artist either, there was just a "director" field..I know there must be a better, simpler way...

I would really like to have screencaps of each video show in E-Touch for the artwork, is that ..& also filtering by genre/year/decade, etc possible with video?

Any tips about adding videos to E-Touch would also be appreciated, for when I have this mp4 tagging figured out

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Thanks, but MP3 tag isn't working for me & neither is Media Monkey & about 3-4 others I tried...none of them let me edit or write metadata to mp4s, I always get a "cannot rewrite" or "cannot open to write" type error....or in Media Monkey it'll let me go ahead & waste all my time, making it look like the artist/year/genre/title, etc tags are there, but as soon as I go back to them they all dissapear & they're back to the way they were, just original filename showing...VERY frustrating, cant believe its such an ordeal here just to tag videos.still got nowhere

What operating system are you using?  You possibly need to download codecs or something similar as you shouldn't have problems like this. What are you using to download mp4 and where from

Windows 10...wouldn't think it's a codec problem, they all play fine in vlc, WMP, etc...Pretty sure it's some annoying overly protective Windows thing about not having permission or not allowing me to edit the info...I just right clicked the video folder & unchecked the read only box, but did nothing...idk..really wearing me out trying to get these videos organized & set up, been like a week with no progress..guess Im gonna have to waste more of life searching around for solutions when I'm up for it again. Had enough for one day

To tag movies you need to use the included non mp3 tagger to create a tag file.

As Barry has said there is the non mp3 tagger in the etouch directory HOWEVER I personally do not get on with it and my method is much faster and does not require for you to keep typing in genres so in the end you can get hundreds done.

As for Windows 10 I was on that for a while as I was a beta tester but I think that I was still tagging but been a while now since then. Is it letting you tag MP3's and not letting you tag MP4's?

Your problem is so new that a search on Google is not bringing up similar problems such as yours. The only thing that I found was that some codecs not liking windows media player, so even though it is a long shot disassociate MP4 files with any Microgreed product.

Going back to Non MP3 Tagger you will need to have your files such as 2015 - Artist Title - Song Title and then you have strings to put that data into those fields. So you would have 1% for year 2% for artist etc.

I am on version 2.7.1 of MP3 tagger and I do not think you have to do anything special with that to tag MP4 files.

One thing I am thinking is about how and where you are downloading from, have these files got any DRM protection which stops you from changing them? Again this is just me taking wild stabs in the dark.

I would look at downloading video codecs http://www.codecguide.com/

I would also say on how much you actually want windows 10 on your system or revert back to another version. I personally will not install windows 10 now unless I have to I still have 5 more years of windows 7 being covered and even then I might just end up taking windows 7 offline and not worrying about another operating system.

Yea Barry, I actually just noticed the non-mp3 tagger but I'm afraid it would be too time consuming to edit each video one by one...I managed to get close to 2000 of em in my new collection! lol

Yes, the actual music...mp3,FLAC,WAV..no problems whatsoever

I watched your video & tried to label them that way, still didn't work. I used a Firefox video downloader extension to get em all off of YT..it labeled the files artist-title..If I have to manually enter year that's fine I guess cuz I would def want the year to show for all of them..and what about album or genre? How does that work with video in E-touch? I would like to have screenshots of each video for the album cover...There has to be some kinda program out there that could maybe create artist-album folders & create a screenshot of the video as a jpg in each folder?? & I'm assuming E-touch will display videos that are set up in seperate folders??

I really like Windows 10 & also am a Windows Phone user whos really looking forward to 10 mobile coming soon so def not wanting to downgrade to older version. I still think it has something to do with permission settings for changing file info, just dont know where that would be. Later on I'll also try to tag a couple mp4s I filmed on my phone to see if it could somehow be DRM issue with the extension Im using to download them..That would SUCK to have to re-dl 2000 videos if that was the case & there was no way to remove it from them all >:(

The first thing that I am going to say then I sped read most of that but do not use firefox, use internet explorer and then try again. I canmot see this being the problem but it would be something that I would try first of all.

I will private message you with my email address, if you can email me one of the videos you have downloaded, then I can have a try and see if I can tag that file.

In regards to album and genre for album I have the song title as I am only doing 1 video 1 directory rather than One Direction 10 videos so my directory is as such

2015 - One Direction - Song Title

As for the genres obviously that does not download from Youtube so you have to do the genres yourself. I have MP3 Tagger set up so that it uses my personal genres so for my genres I have them as follows

Pop Music, Blues Music, Soul Music etc

I do not have sub genres now as I got fed up with too many and different styles coming out all of the time. If say for example something is Drum & Bass then I will put that into genre Dance Music.

If you are doing say for example one artist or indeed say Country Music charts you can download a lot of videos in a small amount of time and then tag them together very quickly.

The main thing is too export them into an TAG file which is an akward file considering that most if not all programs will use NFO files now.

I can still tag a video and then export for eTouch and Kodi within a matter of seconds and not have to type anything.

I will say that you should do what I am doing and that is downloading the lot again, I thought like you that it is ok to just add the year, but if you do not know the year, then you have to type googling to see what year that song came out, and that takes a lot longer than actually just using my method and then downloading so that it downloads as

2015_03_05 - Artist Title - Song Title all what you need to do is edit the _03_05 biit and then strip out anything you don't want such as featuring or remix, official video etc.

I do this with MP3s as well mainly because with eTouch and a lot of other programs it is either a mess or titles do not display the full name unless they have scrollers.

Haha...I'm a Dubstep +Drum & Bass DJ & since I'm heavily into that music & like to organize them detailed for mixing I go even further & set my genres by year, such as "Drum & Bass 2010" "Drum & Bass 2011" etc  ;D ...nearly everything else is "90's Dance" "2000's Dance" & "2010's Dance"

Ok yea, I was just wondering how it was done for videos..I would wanna do just the artist & song folders too

:-\ I was told that Kodi wont recognize metadata on music video mp4s at all, that it just displays filenames & nothing I entered in MM or anything else would show...IF i could ever get MP4s to tag that is..

Before I go ahead & re-dl 2000 videos again I will email u one & when I get a chance I will test some of my own personal MP4s. Really prefer not to use Explorer or Edge as it's now called I guess

& entering the years wouldnt be that bad..alot of em I know by heart & if not all I have to do is scroll down my music library in Media Monkey & glance at the year for the mp3s I also now have a video for

Mark Norville

I am just looking at my kodi music videos all of my mp4's are organised into genres if I go into library then all what I see is this

2 Pac - Ghetto Gospel 2011

I can press I for information and I get director blank as I did not include that, writer blank, genre = rap music, runtime 4 mins, the audio and video information.

I am not sure who has said about Kodi but all the basic information that I included in the nfo file is there and present.

The thing regarding music videos and kodi is that some skins support it and some do not I personally use eminence a lot of times for my home cinema. I agree that music videos are not supported enough by the program but there are scripts that you can download that will scrape your music videos from either the audiodb or internet music video database base.

All my nfo files are done with mp3 tag and I have no problems at all. I would sooner do them my way and that way I can make sure that they are done correctly rather than having to use a scraper as sometimes it can scrap the wrong song etc etc and it will not scrap live performances so if you did download something such as

song title (live in vegas) you have to strip the (live in vegas) and have it as it is called on the website. If for example you want to know it is a live performance then obviously that is very limited.

I just downloaded the video that you sent me and it is not a windows 10 error.

I have had a box pop up saying cannot be opened for writing

I deffinatly think that it is becauser of how you are downloading it.

I would uninstall what you are using and then follow my instructions, do not worry about browser extenstions and then give that a go, and yes use edge, internet explorer.

This is mine

To save you downloading again if you do not wish to go down that road, download this and then you can convert all your videos.

https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-MP4-Video-Converter.htm#.Vg2M_HldGUk

At the moment you are not downloading MP4 files in the true sense of the word instead Webm files which are smaller files compared to the one that you sent me and what I downloaded.

If you are not using media classic from Free Youtube Downloader, then download that and then give that a try instead of using the browser extenstions. If that does not work then obviously I would suggest to use edge.

I think but I am not 100% certain is that webm files are too do with google to stop piracy but do not hold me on that one.

Just to add I would check your settings on your tube downloader and see if it has the option to download MP4 that might be the quicker option for you or if not see if it can do conversions. All what I download from Youtube is MP4 unless they are really old music videos are often WEBM files.

You have a video per folder with a screen shot for the cover. This is how my sound leisure videos are organised, if you have the juke set to jump to play options on a single track then clicking the cover just gives you the play options. It works quite well.

Ok cool, I will try converting some later & also see if I have success with that other downloader or if I can make things wrk by adjusting settings in my extensions..Appreciate the help, man
